８０年発表の３ｒｄ。作詞以外を全て自身で手掛けた完全なるソロ・アルバム。リズム・ボックスやシンセを多用したサウンドはトラフィック時代と大きく違うようにも見えるが、不思議なほど違和感がない。英国然としたメロディは健在で、クールだが暖かみのあるという一見矛盾したかのようなサウンドを持っている。ヴォーカルが素晴しいことは元よりだが、オルガン、ギター、そして何と言ってもセンスの良い音色で絶妙なベンドさばきを見せるリード・シンセが感動的。これほど自然に肉体的なソロを弾く人はロック・シーン広しとも言えどこの人が一番だろう。アルバムの内容は前作を踏襲した感じで、より華やかさを増した感じ。まさにこの人の全盛期の作品がこれだと思う。
人力テクノっぽいソウル・ナンバーの１．は８７年にベスト・アルバムが組まれた時にシングルとして出されて大ヒットした曲。全曲が絶妙のさじ加減で料理された捨て曲なしの傑作アルバムだと思う。

前作"Arc of a diver"に続いてすべての演奏を手がけて製作された作品で、
"Still in the game"や"Help me angel"のようなポップな曲が目立ち、サウンドもきらびやかで華やかなイメージがあります。独特のMOOGシンセを用いたソロも味があります。ただ全体的に感じるのは、彼がこういった音楽製作の方法に一つのめどをつけたのではないかということ。これからの方向性を模索している雰囲気もあります。"Valerie"は後にリミックスされて発表されたヴァージョンのほうが断然良いです。
