   73年に発表されたデビュー作。バンド名が示すとおりニューヨークで結成されたニューヨーク・ドールズは、ロックンロールのもつ暴力性とデカンダンスな要素を最大限にまで増幅させたサウンドと、派手なメイクを施したインパクトのあるルックスで、強烈な支持を集めた。
 「セックス、ドラッグ＆ロックンロール」なイメージをわかりやすく体現したスタイルばかりが取り上げられがちな彼らだが、高性能なロックンロールとでもいうべき斬新なサウンドも、かなりのクオリティをキープしている。唯一のオリジナル・アルバムである本作も、生々しいバンド・グルーヴと（実は）デリケートに組み立てられたアレンジの融合なのど、音楽的に優れた部分が多い。また、マニアックなポップ・ミュージックを志向するトッド・ラングレンのプロデュース・ワークもバンドのキャラクターをうまく引き出している。
   この作品の発表後、バンドはイギリス・ツアーを行い、凄まじい熱狂に迎えられる。ニューヨーク・ドールズが残した興奮と衝撃が70年代後半に勃発するパンク・ムーヴメントにつながっていくことは、いまさら言うまでもないだろう。（森 朋之）

後追い世代にとっては、セックスピストルズの何年も前にこのアルバムが出ていたことを知った時は驚いた。強烈なルックスから聴く前にグラムロックという先入観をもってしまうが、一曲目『人格の危機』（カッコいいタイトル！）を聴いてみよ！
マルコムマクラーレンが彼らに接触してきたが象徴しているように、この時すでに（少なくともピストルズのファーストに代表される）サウンドスタイルとしてのロンドンパンクの雛形は完成をみていたのである。

本物のロックンロールバンド。僕なんか３０年ちかくずっと聞き続けているよ。Mr.Johnny ThundersもDolls時代がいちばんカッコイイと思う。
AEROSMITHやKISSはDOLLSの前座だったりしてたらしいからね。
Johnny Thundersがいたバンドなんだ!
７０年代のNEW YORKのバンド。
"NEW YORK DOLL"バンドの名前もイカしてる。

学生時代ドールズを自分のバンドでカヴァーしたら、先輩バンドに「お前らコテコテやなぁ」と言われた。
むむむ。確かにコテコテじゃ。でもコテコテこそロックンロールの称号なのだ！
パンク？ロック？グラム？ジャンルなんてそんなの関係なし！
ロックンローラー志願者は全員聴くべし！
よくストーンズに似ているといわれますがストーンズがリフにうまくメロディーを乗せるのに対し
ドールズはヴォーカルにリードギターがどんどん絡み付いていく感じ。リズムギターも踊っています！！
