このアルバムは、オリジナルの"Running In The Family"のうち、タイトルナンバーやLessons In Love、Something About Youなどの曲を12"Versionに差し替えたものです。当時入手困難だった12"VersionをまとめてCDで入手できたので、彼らのRemixが好きな人にとっては、絶好のディスクとなりました。
今となっては、RemixesやThe Remix Collectionのような、12"Versionを集めたコンピで、ほぼ彼らのRemixは網羅できる訳ですが、そんな中でのこのアルバムの存在意義は何か？と言いますと、他では入手できないWorld MachineのShep Pettibone Mixでしょう。2in1の"World Machine"に入ってたDubじゃなくってオリジナルのShep PettiboneのUS Mixです。
個人的には、プロの曲作りとサウンドデザインをポップに展開していたこの頃のLevel 42が結構好みです。他のレビュアーの方が、この頃の彼らの"売れ線"加減を批判しておられますが、UKではこの前々作あたりからTop40にもけっこう入ってた訳で、"売らんかな"で彼らが売れた訳でもないと思います。USのMTVでHot WaterやらSomething About Youがたまたま受けた、というのがワールドブレイクのきっかけだった訳ですし。売れたもの="売れ線"と直結してしまっては、良いものを聴き逃すことにもなりかねませんね。

今年もこのアルバムは、初夏~盛夏にかけてのサウンドトラックになりそうです。

これは、Jazz/Funk的なものからPop/Rock的なものへと音楽性が徐々に変化していった彼らの、ちょうど橋渡し的な、最もバランスの取れたアルバムではないか、と思います。個人的には、これと、前作（？）のWorld Machine、次作のStaring at the Sunがお気に入りです。

最近、このアルバムが他アルバムとバンドルされて２アルバムで１つのCDになってしまったのが残念です。アルバムそれぞれに、別々の思い入れがあるのに・・・

従来路線からの方向転換をしたアルバム。ジャズファンク的なのりは影をひそめ。逆に強められたのはラジオでもかかりそうな視聴率をとれそうな耳当たりのよい売れ線音楽だ。この路線で行くとバンドはすぐに破たんするのだが。

よくよく聴いてみると黒人音楽でメジャーなバンド＝ずばり声が似ているジェイムステイラーがいたクール＆ザギャングの路線である＝売れている時の彼等を知っていれば早いが。

それに英国スタイルのシンセポップ＝ＯＭＤ／ティアーズフォフィァーズ／デュラン／ハワードジョーンズ／ＡＢＣあたりの風味をちょいとぱらぱらっとまぶしましたつう感じですかね。

でもそのさじ加減が絶妙なんで消費者のつぼを直撃したのですね。この作品は。クールでビターなジャズファンクはありませんからね。レコ会社というのはでかければでかいなりに、＝ここではポリドール＝会社として組織がきちんとしてる、だからバンドの蘇生術＝延命方法とは＝なんていう会議までやるわけだ。

そんななかで、選択しなどないわけで。

つうわけでできあがったのは、極端に甘口でリスナーの側にたった＝ユーザーフレンドリーでかつラジオフレンドリーなアルバムというわけだ。

つうわけで、音楽スタイルを楽々とスライドできて、ワールドワイドに成功してしまうかなり巨大企業バンドに変貌したレベル４２というわけ。あまりの音楽的な柔軟性に驚いたアルバムである。

しかし売り上げと音楽的な質は関係ない。特筆すべきな曲は存在しない。使い捨ての１００円ライターなのだ。
