＜ガイドライン＞　　１９４９年生まれのイングランド出身のブルーアイドソウル／アダルトコンテンポラリー歌手。１９８５年度作品。ＭＴＶ時代を上手に利用した策略家でもある。

＜聴き所と注意点＞　　本来彼は『アメリカの南部の音楽＝ミーターズやリトルフィートなどを敬愛していた人物であり』バックボーンにそのような日本ではマニア受けの分野がクロスするやっかいな人間なのだ。『趣味人モーズアリソンをカヴァーしてみたり』『レゲエ／テクノに接近したり』その音楽姿勢は本当に賞賛に値する。

このアルバムでは『パワフルでソリッドなファンク』に焦点をしぼっていたように思う。『シック』『システム』＝（デヴィッドフランク）はまさにその理想のバンドなのだ。このアルバムにその感触は濃厚に表れている。

バックに『ソリッドな音』を出せる人間を集結させている。つまり『ジェフボヴァ』＝（ハービーハンコックのロックイットバンドやチェンジ）／ウオリーバダロー（レベル４２の影のフィクサー）／バーナードエドワーズ＝このアルバムをプロデュースもしてるがすでに他界。（シック）／トニートンプソン＝（シック）

そして極め付けは『ジャム＆ルイス』の曲を堂々とカヴァーしちゃっているところ＝ジャネットジャクソンのブレーンたちの曲だわナ。チャカカーンだってバックコーラスで参加だもの。どんだけ黒いかはこれでわかるというもの。

肌の色は関係なくこのロバートパーマーが『心に響く声』と『音楽的にしゃれもん』であることがこのアルバムを輝くものにしている。ヘヴィーメタリックなアレンジは抜きにして考えると彼の作曲能力はかなり高いと言わざるを得ない。（６）で感じる『かなりの皮肉屋ぶりが』たまらんですね。

Robert Palmerの代表曲は複数のアルバムにまたがっているので、
まずはベスト盤を聴くのが常道かと思いますが、オリジナル盤を
選ぶのであれば本作を一番最初に選択することをお勧めします。

当時、"Addicted to Love"のＰＶ(*)が強烈な印象を残したために
その話が先行しがちですが、アルバムは様々な楽曲がコンパクト

に纏まっており、最初から最後まで一気に聴かせる佳作になって
いると思います。個人的には、"(I didn't mean to)Turn you on"
が好きでよく聴いていました。

(*) 厚化粧＆仏頂面＆黒のボディコン(死語！)着用の女性モデル
達がけだるい感じでファンク・ロックを演奏する中でタキシード
を着たPalmarが歌う、というもの。

次作"Heavy Nova"の先行シングル"Simply Irresistable"のＰＶ
では女性モデルが増殖、ファンク・へヴィメタ(？)にあわせて
踊るという内容にパワー・アップ。

声に特徴があり、誰にも似ていないところが印象的。

ソウルやNew Waveのカバー、アフリカ音楽を取り入れたり、色々なスタイルを聞けるのがこの人のいいところですね。

IBMだのDiorだのが歌詞に出てくる♪Hyperactive　がベストトラックかな
