Jon And Vangelis の代表作を 1枚挙げよと言われたなら、おそらく 3作目の "Private Collections" を選ぶ人が多いのでは。でも、個人的には、このアルバムが 1番「好き」です。元々、彼らの音楽の良さはいい意味でルーズな感じがあるところ、つまり神経質に作りこんだ努力の跡とか計算の類とは無縁な感触、あくまでも自然かつ自発的な制作プロセスが感じられるところにあるのだと思います。実際、Jon および Vangelis それぞれのソロアルバムよりも、ずっと寛いだ雰囲気があって、開放感のある「楽な」空間を体験できるこの第2作目には、そんな彼らの音楽のエッセンスが凝縮されています。ドナ・サマーによるカバーで有名な "State of Independence"、霧の中からメイフラワー号が浮かび上がる幻想的な"The Mayflower"、カーチェイスや銃撃戦の効果音に台詞まで飛び交いドラマチックに盛り上がる怪曲 "The Friends Of Mr. Cairo" など、楽しい曲が満載。初期のアナログ盤では全6曲でしたが、このエディションでは "I'll Find My Way Home"(クリスマスソングを思わせる晴れやかな佳曲)も収められています。

全体の完成度からするとやや落ちる。『バックトゥスクール』の処理。
その他はふたりのコンビネーションがばっちりだと思う。ジョンアンダーソンの声は希有な存在で妙な説得力がある。それがここでも健在。
聴くものを想像の旅につれていくアルバム。１０点中６点

このアルバムは確かショートストーリーズの後でした。
お奨めの曲は２曲。
Outside of This (Inside of That)とBeside。
一人で黄昏れたい時にこの順番で口ずさんでみるのが似合います。
タイトル曲は後半部分がグッときますねぇ。
ソラで歌えればかなり気分がすっきりしますよ。
