Using a process developed by JVC and Universal Music Japan discovered through the joint companies' research into LCD display manufacturing* SHM-CDs feature improved transparency on the data side of the disc* allowing for more accurate reading of CD data by the CD player laser head. SHM-CD format CDs are fully compatible with standard CD players. 2009.

ラッシュの5作目（4作目との間にライブ版が発表されているが、それはカウントしない）。
前作で開花したプログレ・ハード・ロック・サウンドがさらに追求されている。「2112年」のような超大作一大組曲は収められていないが、どの曲もレベルアップしており、最初から最後まで楽しんで聞くことができる。

「ザナドゥー」はスリリングなサウンドとさまざまに変化する曲調がまさに桃源郷（ザナドゥー）の快感を11分間にわたり存分に味わせてくれる。宇宙的サウンドから始まる「シグナスX-1　ブック1」はプログレ的味わいのあるスリリングな曲で、練り上げられた構築美が感じられる。この曲のネタは本作品だけで収めることができず、次回作アルバム「Hemisheres」に続編が収録されている。

第２期というのか、ラッシュが最もプログレに接近した70年代後半の傑作群のうちのひとつ。
曲数こそ少ないが、どれもこれもが凝ったアンサンブルを聴かせる、充実度抜群の１枚だ。

編成はギター、ベース、ドラムスに加えて、モノ（単音）シンセ、チュブラーベルなどのパーカッション類を導入しており、たった３人とは思えない壮大なスケールのサウンドを作り出している（勿論、シーケンサーなどまだ普及していない時代である）。

特に素晴らしいのは「Xanadu」（ザナドゥ）だろう。これはイギリスの詩人コールリッジの代表作「クーブラ・カーン」に依拠したもので、歌詞の内容はコールリッジの詩をほぼそのままなぞっている。

この詩は勿論モンゴルの大ハーン・フビライと、彼が上都（ザナドゥ）に築いたと言われる歓楽宮についてのものだが、当時コールリッジに東洋に関する正確な知識があったわけではなく、殆どの内容が彼の創作、というより一種のファンタジーだと思って良い。

これをカナダ人のラッシュがどう料理したか、と言えば、あえてモンゴル風の音楽もイギリス風の音楽も用いずに、「どことなく東洋風の無国籍サウンド」で表現しており、これが成功している。「西洋人の考える東洋幻想」なのだから、このくらいが丁度良い。

音楽面では、静から動へ、動から静への変化が素晴らしく、単純な８ビートの連続などは殆どない。まるでミュージカルの音楽か、交響曲のような劇的な展開の連続である。
敢えて近いサウンドを挙げるなら、初期クイーンとイエスだろう。ドラマティックな音楽が好きな人には、ぜひおすすめしたいアルバムだ。

前後の「2112」「 Hemisphere」とあわせて３部作ともいえる77年の作品。
歌詞、演奏ともに格調高い名曲フェアウェル・トゥ・キングス、ロマン溢れる
ザナドゥ、ラッシュファンの聖歌クローサー・トゥ・ザ・ハート、愛すべき小品
シンデレラマン、マドリガル、そして想像力が広がり過ぎて結末を次作に
持ち越したシグナスX-1と、ラッシュの歴史を語る上で欠かせない名曲・重要曲
を収めた忘れられない１枚。
