1973年にNYで結成され翌74年アルバム『地獄からの使者』でメジャー・デビュー。歌舞伎からヒントを得たと言われる奇抜なメイクと派手なショウなど徹底したエンタテインメント性、一方で親しみやすいポップなハード・ロックという音楽性が相まって大成功を収め、70年代を代表する世界最大級の人気ロック・バンドに登りつめる。その後何度かのメンバー・チェンジやメイクを捨てた素顔での活動を経ながらロック・シーンの第一線で活躍し続け、96年には遂にオリジナル・メンバーでメイクアップをした"KISS"として復活!復活後のツアーは世界各地で話題になり大きな成功を収めた。

中学生のときに、このアルバムを聞いてもう30年！無人島に持って行くならレベルの価値観があります（笑）
捨て曲無し！オ−バ−プロデュ−ス気味かもしれませんが、効果的なＳＥや音像処理がこのアルバムの個性にもなっています。
名曲Ｍ-1はよく、ベスト版に入っているものとはTAKEテイク違いです。
さらに、Ｍ-1からＭ-2の流れは鳥肌モノです。
ベストアルバム以上の、名盤です

キッスといえばこれ、デトロイトロックシティです。いつ、どこで聴いてもいいねぇ。ところでこのアルバムはそれまでの3枚のアルバムとはかなりいろんな部分が変わってきています。デトロイトロックシティのイントロとアウトロの車の効果音(しかし、どうやって録ったんだろう?)、こういうのは初めての試みです。ベスや地獄の遺産、燃えたぎる血気などもそれまでのキッスからは考えられないような曲です。全体的には強引なまでのギターリフがみられなくなったかな。でも、キッスが演奏するとどのような曲調であってもキッスの匂いがプンプンしてくるのだ! ゆえにキッスらしくないなんてのはありえないのだ。そして、キッスはロックンロールオールナイトのスマッシュヒットでつかんだチャンスをこのアルバムによって見事にものにしました。つまり本作品がなければ、キッスはニューヨークのローカルバンドでおわっていたかもしれません。そんな意味でもキッスの長い歴史上最重要アルバムであるといえるかもしれません。

　オープニングの自動車の爆音から「デトロイト・ロック・シティー」に繋いでゆき最後に事故をおこしてしまう場面のスピード感はいつ聴いても至極に「カッコイイ！」です。

　冒頭ではカーラジオから彼らのヒット曲「ロックンロール・オールナイト」が聞こえるというシャレも効いていて、ともかくこの展開で「デトロイト・ロック・シティー」を聴くことが出来るのはこのアルバムだけですから、それだけでも買う価値は充分です。

　価格もそこらのシングル盤と同じくらい安いではありませんか！
　他にも名曲揃いのこのアルバム、必ず一枚クルマに置いておきましょう。元気が出ますよ。でも決して飛ばしすぎないよう。
