【アーティストについて】
1973年にNYで結成され翌74年アルバム『地獄からの使者』でメジャー・デビュー。歌舞伎からヒントを得たと言われる奇抜なメイクと派手なショウなど徹底したエンタテインメント性、一方で親しみやすいポップなハード・ロックという音楽性が相まって大成功を収め、70年代を代表する世界最大級の人気ロック・バンドに登りつめる。その後何度かのメンバー・チェンジやメイクを捨てた素顔での活動を経ながらロック・シーンの第一線で活躍し続け、96年には遂にオリジナル・メンバーでメイクアップをした"KISS"として復活!復活後のツアーは世界各地で話題になり大きな成功を収めた。

キッスのサードアルバムにして本邦デビューアルバム。そしてアメリカにおいても成功のきっかけをつくったアルバムです。すなわちロックンロールオールナイトがデトロイトで売れ始めたとの一報を受けたキッスはツアーをキャンセル、急遽デトロイトに飛びコンサートを敢行、録られたライヴがアライヴというわけだ。もちろん次作のトップデトロイトロックシティは、自分達にチャンスをあたえてくれたデトロイトのファンに感謝を込めた曲であるのはいうまでもない。
また、その他の曲もロックボトム、激しい愛を、彼女、ルームサーヴィスなど初期のキッスの代表曲がずらりと収録されています。決してロックンロールオールナイトだけのアルバムじゃないですよ!

奇抜なルックスゆえに音楽的に異端視されがちだったKISSであるが、今聴きなおしてみると、長期にわたり埋没せず、コンスタントにヒットを出してきた実力はヒット曲だけにとどまらず、アルバム全体からもうかがえる。「Dressed to Kill~地獄への接吻~」もそんな一枚だ。全体的には、アコースティックなインストルメンタルを挟んで、ハードロックアルバムらしく、ガンガン押してくるテンポの早さが特徴だが、うまいと思うのはそれが一本調子になって退屈にならないことだ。個々の曲が生きているので、テンションが途切れない。前半4曲のノリの良さを始め、もちろん最終曲「ロックン・ロール・オール・ナイト」の出来はいわずもがな。おなじみのサビでは思わず一緒に歌い出したくなること請け合いだ。

痛快ロックンロール満載！
日本でのデビュー作。当時初めて見た人の衝撃度はすごかっただろう。
あのルックスでキャッチーで親しみやすいＲＯＣＫ（痺れさせる魔力）。そこが何年経っても変わらぬ人気の秘密ではないだろうか。「Rock And　Roll All Nite」は私の夢です。映画「デトロイト・ロックシティ」をロックバカになりって見たら泣きました。
