【アーティストについて】
1973年にNYで結成され翌74年アルバム『地獄からの使者』でメジャー・デビュー。歌舞伎からヒントを得たと言われる奇抜なメイクと派手なショウなど徹底したエンタテインメント性、一方で親しみやすいポップなハード・ロックという音楽性が相まって大成功を収め、70年代を代表する世界最大級の人気ロック・バンドに登りつめる。その後何度かのメンバー・チェンジやメイクを捨てた素顔での活動を経ながらロック・シーンの第一線で活躍し続け、96年には遂にオリジナル・メンバーでメイクアップをした"KISS"として復活!復活後のツアーは世界各地で話題になり大きな成功を収めた。

アルバムジャケットに日本語が使われていることでも知られるキッスのセカンドアルバム。キッスの日本デビューはサードアルバムですので、セカンドで日本語が使われた真意は不明ですが、地獄の叫びなる邦題はキッス側の命名ということになります。また当時のファン達から最高傑作と称えられたアルバムでもあります。内容的にもライヴの定番ナンバーがズラリと並んでおり、個人的にも大好きなアルバムであります。なかでも特にゴーインブラインドがキッスらしくない真面目な歌詞のロックバラードなのですが、お気に入りです。未聴のかたはぜひ聴いてみてください。

初期の作品の中ではかなりダークな感じのする曲が多いが、味がある曲が多く、ハマります。3.は「UNPLUGGED」を聞いて良さを実感しました。異質ですが、メロディーは良いです。5.はライブでの定番で、ライブのように途中がやや間延びする感じがなく、タイトにまとまっていて良いノリ状態で終われます。6.はライブではほとんどやりませんが、KISSらしい曲です。7.は、「ALIVE!」で聞く方がいいですね。8.も6.と同様初期のKISSらしい曲です。

古き良き70年代を彷彿とさせます。9.は名曲ですが、やや録音状態が悪いように聞こえるのが残念です。これも「UNPLUGGED」で曲の良さが実感できます。10.は超~シブい曲です。ACEの作曲ですが、大好きです。このアルバムは全体的に他の初期アルバムに比べてマニアックな感じがしますが、!!それだけに一度好きになったらハマります。ぼくは今はこのアルバムが一番好きです。
