元々は音楽を目指していなかった遅咲きのシンガー。'９５年のデビュー作の本作がいきなりトリプルプラチナム以上となり、ブレイクしました。
'８０年代中頃に売れていたHootersのソングライターコンビ、エリック（G)とロブ（Key）が曲作り・演奏に全面支援。
'９０年代に入ってHootersは「Out of body」など出しますが、正直言っていい曲がなくもうだめだと思っていました。そこにこのアルバムで、ジョアンとの共作を中心に完全復活。
1からいきなり心が持っていかれます。泣きのフレットレスベース、せつない歌声、「聖テレサ」という歌詞を読めば分かる皮肉なタイトル。
Hootersの（良くも悪くも）個性のひとつ、宗教的主張がとてもシンプルかつ生活感のある歌詞となって、シングルチャートNo.1になった6、オマー・ハキムのドラムすら溶け込んでしまう素晴らしいアンサンブルの8、などとにかく曲の完成度が高く、飽きさせません。
ラストの12、一見お手軽に作ったジミな歌に見えて、シンセとギターが後ろでどこか小さな狂気をちらちらさせる、そういえば歌詞もなんとなく・・・。
広大なアメリカには、突然こんな名盤を出してくる懐の深さがある、そう感じさせる１枚です。

衝撃の出会いでした。哀愁ただようロックしてます！"one of us"は特にいい！！名曲っていう言葉じゃ表せないくらいです。2時間の映画を見るよりドラマしててすっごく切ないです！！

透明感のある声、渋めのアレンジ、アルバム全曲カッコいいですが、映画、バニラ・スカイの中で流れながらもサントラには収録されていない、「One of us」が特にいいです！　そう、Dr.イーブルも歌ってましたねー！！　やっぱ名曲だ（笑）。
