元Gorilla biscuitsのギタリスト、walter率いるニューヨーク出身のバンドの１stアルバム。ハードコア出身者が、表現の広がりを求めて新結成したバンド（いわゆるエモーショナルハードコア）の先駆的存在で、その後に与えた影響は少なくない。
Quicksandのサウンドの特徴は、空間的に広がりのある、統制されたギターノイズと、ドラマティックで技巧的なギターリフの絶妙なブレンドである。また、ゴリゴリと固いベース音や変則的なドラミングは、当時、同じニューヨークを拠点にしていたhelmetなどにも通じ、オーソドックスなハードコアの特徴とも言える曲の速さには頼ることなく、重厚なリフでハードコアのダイナミズムを表現するスタイルは、ニューヨークハードコアのバンドと共通するが、一曲のなかで緊張と弛緩を繰り返し、リズムにうねりを生み出すスタイルは特異なものと言えるだろう。
ポスト・ハードコアでは、fugaziに代表されるワシントンＤ・Ｃのバンドが有名であるが、それに比べるとQuicksandの日本での認知と評価はあまりに低い。
もちろん、人によって好き嫌いはあるだろうが、fugaziやshellacを高く評価する土壌があるのであれば、このバンドがもっと高く評価されてもよさそうなものである。

元Gorilla biscuitsのギタリスト、walter率いるニューヨーク出身のバンドの１stアルバム。
固い質感のベース音や変則的なドラミングが、当時同じニューヨークを拠点にしていたhelmetなどを彷彿とさせ、速さに頼らずに重厚なリフでハードコアのダイナミズムを表現するスタイルはまさにニューヨークハードコア的なサウンドと言える。
しかしながら、空間的な広がりを感じさせながらも緻密に計算されたノイズと、うねるようなリズムに支えられながら一気にピークまで上昇していくようなドラマティックなリフとの絶妙なブレンドが、Quicksand特有の魅力を感じさせる。
日本では過小評価されている嫌いがあるが、その後エモコア、エモシーンに与えた影響は少なくない。
