Elton John has always fancied himself a big-theme album artist, but because even his finest albums are spotty, his best moments, with few exceptions, have been singles. Greatest Hits collects nine of them from '70 to '74, plus one of those exceptions, the stirring faux-gospel "Border Song." If you overlook the weightless "Crocodile Rock" and the contrived "Your Song," this album shows why John is a superstar, especially on the big ballads, where collaborator Bernie Taupin supplies some interesting lyrics for his impeccable melodic hooks. The ethereal "Rocket Man" is a marvel despite its goofy premise, and "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me" remains the greatest pop moment of John's career. --David Cantwell

エルトン・ジョンが大好きで、この廉価版のCDを買ったのですが、
聞いてみて、本当に素晴らしかったです。
”YOUR　SONG”は何回聞いても飽きません。
他の”DANIEL”とか”ROCKET　MAN”（これは哲学的な曲なのかな？）とかもラジオ深夜便で
聞いていても何とも思わなかったのですが、CDで聴いているうちに
良い曲だな、と思うようになりました。
”CANDLE IN THE WIND”は故ダイアナ妃に捧げられた曲です。
これもこのCDで聴くまでは何とも思わなかったのですが、
素晴らしい曲だ、と思えるようになりました。
ですが、こんな素晴らしいCDなのに、歌詞カード（英語も日本語訳も）も何もついていません。どんな歌詞なのか知りたいと思っていたんですけど。
歌詞もきっと素晴らしいのでしょうが、
やはりこれにも歌詞カードがついている方が良いにきまってます。
これから購入される方は注意です。
私はネットで歌詞を調べてこようっと。ｗ

カルロス・ゴーンは21才の時、バイクに乗ってはるばるフランスからエルトン・ジョンのコンサートを聴きに行ったそうである。
ヴェルサーチのファッション集大成本にはプリンスとならんでエルトン・ジョンが大活躍している。

かっこよくはない。でもカッコイイ!!

「君のいる人生がどんなにすばらしいか書きたいんだ」。Your Songはあせる事のない感動をこれからもどんな人にも与えていくのだろう。

すばらしいエルトン。ずっとそのままで。

74年発表の「カリブ」までのベスト盤です。もうこれは何も言うこと無しの曲がずらり。エルトンの真に輝いていた時期の名曲を堪能して下さい。それまでのアルバムの中からあまねくチョイスとゆうよりも選曲が割と片寄っているのでエルトン本人がそれにかかわっていると見る方が。曲順も不思議と言えば不思議なんですがこれだけの名曲群だと聴いていてそんなことどうでもよくなってしまいます。初めて買う方にはほんとうってつけ。ここから始まって奥の深いエルトン・ワールドに入って下さい。クロコダイル・ロックの一人ハーモニーたまんない。これだけ聴いて来た人間もなおかつ感動させてくれるそんなアルバムです。
