たしか92年の作品だとおもいますが、96年にデフ・レパードをさかんに聴くようになって、それまで「フォトグラフ」と「ラブ・バイツ」くらいにしか興味がなかったのに一気にデフ・レパード・フリークになってしまいました。この手の音楽はもはや若い人、とくに高校生から20代前半のラップ漬け音楽ファンには敬遠される傾向にある今日この頃ですが、30代の私にはよく練られたアンサンブル、コーラス、アレンジ、演奏の巧さなどを考慮するに、70~80年代のロック全盛期の時代の音楽を高度に洗練させた素晴らしいグループと考えます。デフ・レパードに対するROLLING STONE誌の評価が非常に高いのは、イギリス出身のハードロックバンドであるにもかかわらず、アメリカに迎合しないかたちでキャッチーでありながら奥の深い作風と楽曲のレベルの高さに起因しているのだということが容易に理解できます。個人的には初めて恋人(今の妻ですが)と海外旅行をしたグアムのBGMになっており、良き想い出を常にノスタルジックに彷彿させてくれる１枚として今もよく聴きます。デフ・レパードのアルバムはすべて大傑作ですが、本作は完璧なデフ・レパード節を確立した安定作と評します。

彼らの前作、前々作はバカ売れしてしまって
（前作に至っては、それ一枚がベスト版みたいに
ヒット連発状態だったような気が。。。）
今となっては、少々陰の薄い感じの印象の作品かも
知れませんけれども、発売された当時は
とてつもなく売れていて、出すシングルはどれもチャートイン
という、このアルバムも前作に負けないほどの完成度と共に
手が付けられないほどの人気を誇っていたと記憶しています。

前作「ヒステリア」の良いところを引き継いだ感じで
「アーマーゲドン・イット」みたいな２曲目
「ヒステリア」とか「アニマル」みたいな６曲目
「ラブ・バイツ」とか「フーリン」みたいな４曲目などなど
元気良くスタートするオープニングトラックも含めて
美味しい曲が凝縮されている作品だと思います。

初めてデフ・レパード聞く方々には
とても優しい内容の作品であると思います。

1曲目だけでこのアルバムの良さが分かる。前のアルバムで凝りに凝ったアルバムを作った彼らがこのアルバムではとにかく楽しいアルバムを作りたかったのだろう。
