4.0 out of 5 stars クールな？邦題『地獄への誘い』（発売当時）, 2005/7/9
最初に聞いたスレイヤーの音がコレ。なんかもっとヘヴィーな奴を聞きたいと思っていた高校あがりたての頃に、友達に借りました。最初の印象は「クソみたいに速えー」でした。しかしそれをも凌ぐ程驚いたのは歌詞のやばさである。死体愛好癖や悪魔主義の歌をこんなに堂々と歌っちゃっていいの？って感じで次から次へと血なまぐさい風景を連想させるのだ。（これは次作で更に顕著に）当時それまで聞いてきた全てのアルバムより３倍くらいヘヴィーでショッキングでした。（メタリカのキルエムオールを除いては。）　とにかく賢明なるスレイヤーファンはこのアルバムを持っている事と思うが、持っていない人はぜひ聞いてみてほしい。幾分、曲が長めだが（特に３rdと比べると）そんな事は楽曲の良さで何とも思わないだろう。当然だけどこの頃から彼らは演奏上手いしね。特にアタマからの1・2・3は素晴らしいと思う。音は当時のプロダクションゆえ、ちょっと籠り気味だがそれがまたおどろおどろしさに拍車をかけていると思う。バンド名に違わぬ、純度１２０％の殺人音楽・スラッシュメタルを聴くことができる。

今、改めて聴いてみると、気持ちいいほどのストレートさです。最近のブラ系やデス系がお好きな方には、満足とまでは行かないかもしれませんが、発売された時代を鑑みれば、まさしく走り的なアルバムです。邪悪でストイックな音作りに関しては、未だ追随を許さない存在なのかもしれません。一度聴いてみては？

SLAYERといえば「REIGN IN BLOOD」が代名詞のようになってしまっているが、
この作品を忘れてはならない。
1曲目「Hell Awaits」は、かの名曲「Angel Of Death」に負けじ劣らず。
むしろ、個人的としては、ヘヴィな展開からいきなりスラッシュに移る
疾走感がたまらなく好き。
このアルバムも必聴。SLAYERはREIGN IN BLOODだけではない。
