イングヴェイの後、数多くの早弾きクローンが登場する中、音楽性・技術ともに抜きん出たトニー・マカパインのソロデビュー作。彼の作品の中では最も演奏と楽曲の良さが際立った１枚。元ジャーニーのS・スミス（Dr)、B・シーン(B)の素晴らしいサポートが、アルバム全体にグルーブ感を与えている。楽曲の出来にバラつきのある以降のアルバムと比べて、本作は捨て曲無しで、最初から最後まで一気に聴き通せる（ショパンのピアノ曲演奏はご愛嬌だが）。ネオクラシカル系のインストは、手癖や「どこかで聞いた」的なフレーズに陥りがちだが、本アルバムは歌心さえ感じさせる美しいフレージングが印象的。トニーのアルバムでは一番のお勧め。

ＨＭシーンやＣＡＢ等のフュージョンセッション等、バリエーションの広い活躍を見せるギタリスト兼キーボーディスト、トニーマカパインの85年発表のファーストソロアルバムです。サウンド的にはＨＭに近いプログレハード的メタルフュージョンとでもいえばいいでしょうか。マカパインのギターの特徴といえば、クラシックの素養に裏打ちされた美旋律のフレージングということになると思いますが、このアルバムでも、スティーブスミス、ビリーシーンという強力なリズムセクションをバックに、メロディーラインの美しいギターを披露しています。また、ショパンのカバー等では、得意の美しいkeyも聴けます。
ギタリストファンはもとより、ドラマチックなフュージョンが好きな方にもお奨めできるアルバムです。

数多くの超絶ギターリストを輩出したShrapnelの中でも、個人的にはVinnie Moore、Marty Friedmanと共に好きな一人で、最近のCABの活動も素晴らしいです。
初めてTony Macalpineを知ったのはProjectDriverで超絶ギターを聞いたからでした、あれから１６〜１７年今でも一線で活躍しているのは嬉しい限りです。
このアルバムではRavenが一番好きです
