1961年10月、ヴィレッジ・ヴァンガードでのライヴ。ティモンズとロン・カーター、アルバート・ヒースという若手ばかりのトリオだ。有名な「モーニン」の作曲者として、キャノンボール・アダレイのピアニストとして、ファンキーなイメージの強いティモンズだが、スタンダードが多いためかここでは黒っぽさは後退している。同時期のアルバム“This Here Is...”とはだいぶ雰囲気が違うのだ。
全体の印象が小ぶりでおとなしい。気軽に聴けて気持ちよいとはいうものの、とくに個性的とも思えず、ほかの録音と較べてしまうとスケールが小さいのがもの足りない。

　２曲目なんかのイメージが強い人だが、先入観を捨てて聴けば、しみじみとよく歌うアドリブが魅力的だ。好サポートのもとでの、リラックスしたライヴ演奏。メロディ・メーカーとしての資質が全開し、曲のよさが十分引き出される。

　まず冒頭の「枯葉」に惹かれる。ロン・カーターのイントロが粋だ。私はビル・エヴァンスの大ファンだが、この曲に関しては「ポートレイト・イン・ジャズ」のいささか堅い解釈よりも、こちらを好む。バラード「グッド・バイ」も確かなテクニックとよく歌うメロディが印象的。「ダット・デア」「時さえ忘れて」「朝日のようにさわやかに」と、最後まで飽きさせない。全体的に、哀感の滲み出た、しみじみ系の選曲がよく、むしろ、２の「ソー・タイアード」が浮いていて邪魔な感じさえする。
やはり、この人の本質は、ウィントン・ケリーのようなスウィング感と、デューク・ジョーダンのような哀感を併せ持ったところにあると感じる。

RonCarterのﾍﾞｰｽで幕あける枯葉のﾐﾃﾞｨｱﾑﾃﾝﾎﾟに引き続きSoTiredが最高。JMのﾊﾞｰｼﾞｮﾝよりも更に速くてSo Much Tiredになっていたかも。Bobby TimmonsのTrioﾗｲﾌﾞがこれだけなのは非常に残念。JMから２年くらい早めに手を引いていればTimmonsのピアノトリオに対する評価やその後の人生も変わったかも。Leeが撃たれてから酒びたりになり死んじゃったって何かに書いてあったが本当？見てきたようなことを書く人多いんで、、、。
