邦題は『ワルツ・フォー・デビィ　ライヴ！』というものです。
何にでも「ワルツ・フォー・デビィ」と付ければ良いと思われているのかも知れませんが、原題のほうがリスナーの混乱をまねかなくて良いと思いますので。

1969年、デンマークのコペンハーゲンにあるカフェ・モンマルトルでのライヴ盤です。演奏の合間合間の拍手が臨場感をもたらしています。ジャズは聞き手の存在によってプレイヤーの演奏の質もかわってきます。ここでの名演は、そのような素晴らしい聴衆の存在も大きかったとは思いますが。

エヴァンスが弾くピアノの粒立ちした音がいいですね。この収録では、普段はリリカルなイメージの強いエヴァンスが、ベースのエディ・ゴメスに引っ張られるかのように弾きまくっています。珍しく「熱い」演奏が繰り広げられているわけで、これもまた彼の魅力となっています。

「Waltz for Debby」「'Round Midnight」「Someday My Prince Will Come」というスタンダード・ナンバーは、1960年代前半のリヴーサイドでの収録よりも饒舌な演奏だと思いました。これもまたいいですね。
もっとも「Time Remembered」のような内省的な曲にこそ、エヴァンス独特の美意識に飾られた音楽世界が繰り広げられていると感じましたが。

なお、本アルバムは、未発表の音源の中から、彼の死後８年を経て世に送り出されたものです。
ファンとしてはありがたいことです。

ビル・エヴァンスの１９６９年１１月２４日デンマークはコペンハーゲンでのライブ。
同日の別ライブが"Jazzhouse"としてMilestoneからリリースされている。
メンバーは、Bill Evans(p),Eddie Gomez(b),Marty Morell(ds)のトリオ。
"Round Midnight","Waltz For Debby","Nardis","Time Remembered","Someday My Prince Will Come"と名曲揃いであるので聞き易いです。
この頃（１９６９年）のエヴァンスには、リヴァーサイド時代のライブアルバムにあった詩情やリリカルさは、もうあまり感じられない。ベース、ドラムスのプレーヤー達も変わっている。トリオの音色も違う。過去を捨て去って、新たな道に邁進する姿がある。エヴァンスは、曲のテンポを上げて、メリハリを付けて力強くピアノを弾いています。"Exporations"よりも"Potrait In Jazz"のエヴァンスの方に近いと言えば分かりやすいかもしれない。リヴァーサイドの各種エヴァンスのリーダー作を聴き終えた後に聴くと、新鮮で良いと思う。内容的に良く出来たライブであることは間違いないです。

エディー・ゴメス、マーティー・モレルとの第三期エヴァンス・トリオのライブ盤です。コペンハーゲンのJazzhus Monmartre での演奏を2枚のアルバムに分けて発売されたものの一つです。（邦題『ワルツ・フォー・デビー・ライブ』）もう片方はJazz House（邦題『枯葉』）

悪く言えばエヴァンス・トリオのヒット作オンパレードですが、志の高さと、メンバーの違いからか、決してアルバムの質は低くありません。逆に７０年代へと続く演奏形態の萌芽が見られるクリエイティブな演奏をしています。とりわけ素晴らしいのは「Nardis」で、曲の雰囲気を決める短いイントロに続く熱演は、第三期エヴァンス・トリオが演奏する同曲の最上のものであると私は考えます。（モントルーの演奏に比する内容です。ドラムが若干劣るのはご愛嬌。）

全体的にはそれまでのエヴァンス・トリオの雰囲気を残してはいますが、70年代の演奏にある明るさをたたえた演奏が続きます。これは想像ですが、エヴァンス・トリオの世評と実力が一致し始めたことと関係があるのではないでしょうか。

数少ない難点を挙げると、録音のバランスが悪いです。左右のスピーカーから各楽器の音が聞こえます。録音自体は悪くないので、これならばモノラルで出してくれればいいのにと思ったのは私だけではないと思います。

最後に本作の内容からは離れますが、このアルバムの録音から離れること10日ばかりで、ダラー・ブランドの「アフリカン・ピアノ」の録音が同じ場所で行われています。叶う夢ではありませんが、同年同月にカフェ・モンマルトルに居たかったと願うことしきりです。
