   サラ・ヴォーンの1970年代を代表するアルバム『ハウ・ロング・ハズ・ディス・ビーン・ゴーイン・オン』とレーベルも同じで伴奏も同じ編成。伴奏者の知名度は前者ほどではないにしろ、特に歌伴奏に秀でた名手がそろう。それだけにアレンジも徹底し伴奏陣のまとまりも良く、サラの歌を堪能するには絶品のアルバムだ。
   有名スタンダードから知られざる名曲、そして新しいところでブラジルのイヴァン・リンスの曲を2曲も取り上げている。サラはブラジル音楽に興味をもっており、『アイ・ラヴ・ブラジル』などブラジル・ミュージシャンとのアルバムを作っている。今でこそ有名なソング・ライターの曲をこの時代に取り上げ、すばらしいジャズ・バラードとして聴かせている点に注目。
   それ以上のハイライトは<3>。おなじみのシャンソンであるが、ジャズでもスタンダードとなっているこの曲を、スキャットの土台として取り上げている。歌詞も歌わない、メロディも歌わずにスキャットで聴かせる。手に汗握るスリリングなスキャットに脱帽。（高木宏真）

She picked the musicians, she picked the songs, and the result is Sassy at her purest--undiluted by slick orchestrations or studio enhancements. The atmosphere is loose and lively, Vaughan's voice at its ripest--and she's recorded nice and close so you can almost feel the warmth of her breath coming through the speakers. まず声が最高、技術も最高、ハートも最高。
このCD聞いてジャズが好きになりました。
音を自由自在に操ってて、歌いながら音符で遊んでるみたいです。
サラが歌った後に楽譜が出来ていくみたいで、初めて聞いたときは放心状態でした。笑
本当に凄い人です。おすすめです。
まだ聞いてない人みんなに是非聞いてほしいです（＞＜）

良くも悪くも、日本のジャズファンにとって「枯葉」は最もポピュラーな曲と言って良い。あまりに安易にうけてしまうので、「カレッパ」などと揶揄されたりもする。

が、サラ・ヴォーンの「枯葉」には正直度肝を抜かれた。妥協の一切ないスキャットで全編通し、そのアイデアの豊かさとそれを完璧に歌いこなすテクニックはさすが。絶対音感に裏打ちされた完璧なテクニックと言って良い。

種々の「枯葉」を聞き比べて、最後に到達するのがサラの「枯葉」ではないかと思っている。少なくともヴォーカルの「枯葉」では頂点と言っても良いのではないか。あるいは、色々な「枯葉」を聞き比べることでジャズの多様性やすばらしさを辿ることもできる。そのようなジャズの魅力にどっぷりと浸れる一枚だ。

もちろん日本でのアルバム名は「枯葉」だ。良くも悪くも。

　主にクラシック音楽を長年聴きながらポツリポツリとジャズのレコード・CDを手にしてきたが、これだ！
というものになかなかお目にかかれなかった。やっと出会えたのがまさしくこのアルバム。
正統？ジャズファンからすれば何を今更、と言われそうだけれど・・。
　このアルバムはグールドのゴールドベルク変奏曲のように「何度聞いても飽きず」、
ホロヴィッツのスカルラッティのように「何度聞いても煌めいている」・・
サラ・ボーンの枯葉、枯葉のサラ・ボーン？　ちょっと言いすぎかな？
　とにかく私のジャズ体験のなかで出会えた最高のアルバムの一つ。
キース・ジャレットの「Standards,Vol,1」と共にCD棚の上の方に置いておこうと思う。
