　62年にビートルズを・63年にはストーンズを前座としてイギリスをツアーし、また64年からはジミヘンをバック・バンドに従え、ジミに「リトル・リチャードが歌ったことをギターでやりたい」と言わしめた、ロック黎明期の大スターです。奇行の人ですが、何かに取り憑かれたかのような鬼気迫るヴォーカル、ブギ・ウギやゴスペルの影響を強く感じさせファンクの始祖とも言えるような粘りあるリズム・・・今でも十分カッコいいと思います。
　ここに収録された曲はすべて1955-59年発表の曲です（実際には57年にはロック界を引退しゴスペルに転身しており、57年までに録音された音源がその後もリリースされていたようです）。
　リトル・リチャードの音源は正体不明の廉価盤を含めると相当数の商品がリリースされており、どれを買えばいいか迷うところだと思います。「リトル・リチャードといえばまず50年代」ですし、50年代に発表されヒット・チャートにランキングされた主要なシングル曲をほぼ完全に網羅したこのアルバムは初心者向けの非常に効率よく聴ける決定的なベスト・アルバムと言っていいでしょう（16曲目以外はすべてWikipediaのディスコグラフィーに記載されています）。
　20曲しか入っていないのが、ちと残念！
