ブルーマーダーにしての1発目、歌がいい、ギターがいい、曲がよすぎる。加えていうならギターの色っぽさがホワイトスネイク時にでていたあのいい感じが相当でています。今後にでる「20th~」や「nothig but~ 」などにくらべるとやはりこの作品はベストワンですね。トニーフランクリンや充実期のカーマインアピスのプレイは文句なしでアルバム全体が締まっているし捨てる曲（無駄、曲数あわせ）がない贅肉無き肉体といったところでしょうか？

正直いえば、ベストオブジョンサイクスのようなものを買うのならこの作品は別に持っていて損はないです。逆にこの作品以外で構成されてどの曲がどのアルバムかと考えるよりこのアルバム自体を何度も聴くべきです。誉めすぎてもその価値ありです。難点は音の割にジャケットワークがやっつけ仕事かなと。

１９８７年から翌年にかけて売れに売れたホワイトスネイクのアルバム「サーペンス・アルバス（白蛇の紋章）」。「スティル・オブ・ザ・ナイト」、「バッド・ボーイズ」、「チルドレン・オブ・ザ・ナイト」などの秀逸なハードロック・チューンから、「ヒア・アイ・ゴー・アゲイン」、「イズ・ディス・ラブ」などヒットチャートの上位まで駆け上った大ヒット曲まで満載の、正に売れて当然！といえる大・大名盤でした。
「もっとたくさん聴きたい・・・。」
ファンは皆、そう思ったモンです。
しかし、そういった「ホワイトスネイクもっと聴きたい症候群」の人が増殖する中発表された次作「スリップ・オブ・ザ・タン」ではギタリストがジョン・サイクスからスティーブ・ヴァイにメンバー・チェンジ、サウンド・メイキングから根本的に違う世界になり、ファンは困惑してしまいました。
そう、「サーペンス~」はデヴィッド・カヴァーデイルが創りあげたものではなかったのです。
ギタリスト「ジョン・サイクス」の世界にカヴァーデイルが客演したようなカタチとでも言えばいいでしょうか。
とにかくジョンのサウンドは個性的です。
セクシーな、粘り気のあるギター・サウンドと言うんでしょうか、とにかく病みつきになります。
そうしたことをハッキリと証明してみせたのがこのアルバム「ブルー・マーダー」です。
サイクスがカヴァーデイルと別れなければ、本当はこういった楽曲がホワイトスネイクのアルバムとして発表されていたんだろうなぁ、とヒシヒシと実感できる力作です。
もともとサイクスは「サーペンス~」でもバック・コーラスも担当していたので、「サーペンス~」の次作として聴いても何ら違和感がありません。
「サーペンス~もっと聴きたい症候群」の方に、いやそれ以外の全ロック・ファンにオススメの１枚です。

私にとって最初で最後'89スーパー・トリオ・バンドBlue Murderのアルバム。Whitesnakeを解雇され、復讐の念と数々のアーティストと化学反応を起こしながら完成したアルバムであると思う。Tony Martinが関わっている後期Black Sabbathを思い起こさせる名曲Valley Of The Kings。ほとんどの曲に初期メンバーのCozy Powellが作曲に関わっていたと思われる部分が多く有り、Carmaineは自分の物に消化するのに相当苦労（曲が崩れるので出来なかったのか？）したようにとれるが、柔軟で器用な彼は見事にダイナミックなドラミングを披露している。ボーカルも得意としているので彼無しではLiveの再現は考えられない。1曲目からBlue Murderの雰囲気をアルバムの中で見事に表現している裸足のTony。さりげなくニックがイイ仕事している。そしてジョンの鬼神が乗り移ったようなプレイ。この全曲はJohn１人が作ったわけではない、数多くのスーパープレーヤーがしのぎを削りアイデアを出して、まとめあげたアルバムである。アルバムの雰囲気はイイが、音は重ねすぎており良いとは言えない。歌詞も3.8.のようなエジプト風な古代を感じさせる歌詞で統一して欲しかった。不満はあるがそれでも捨て曲無しの最高傑作に変わりはない。18年経っているが決して色褪せていない。もうアルバムに関わっているRay Gillen、Cozy Powellはもういない。海外ではあまりにも売れていない隠れた名盤である。今更何を言っても変わらないがヨーロッパを本拠地として活動していたら状況は変わっていたかもしれない。時間は進んでも私の中では永遠の1989です。彼には目を覚まして欲しい、ライブでアドリブ全開でギターと呼吸していた頃を・・・。彼はBritish Hard Rockを伝承できる数少ない一人です!いや今の世の中に伝える義務がある筈だ!
