4.0 out of 5 stars お家騒動から生まれた金の卵・・ＵＳ盤, 2006/5/21
８４年発売の日本版で馴染んだ私には、最初米盤の曲順には大きな違和感があった。
「スライド・イット・イン」を頭にして２曲目に「スロー＆イージー」・・このアメリカ人のセンス・・
わびさびなんてありゃしない（笑）
トップは日盤のように「ギャンブラー」がしっくりくるし、「スロー＆イージー」はアルバム半ば（レコード時はＢ面トップ）でメリハリがある日盤の方が好き。

サウンド・リミックス、米盤はヴォーカルとコーラスの処理がキンキンしてる。メルの綺麗なコーラスが金属的で聴き辛いので日盤が良い。
コージーのドラムは圧倒的に米盤が好き。日盤はボコボコした音で彼らしく聴こえないのに対し米盤はシャープ感があって良い。

ベースはコリンのゴリっとした音からニールのしんなりした音に変わった。
この好き嫌いは聴き手しだい。日盤のコリンのベースもおもしろいニュアンスではある。

問題のギター。
この頃ＷＳの音楽性はブルージーでソウルフルさがまだ多分に残っており、
ミッキーとメルのフォーマットで作られた曲に、後から被せたサイクスのギターはとても窮屈に聴こえてしまう。
彼の豪快なサウンドはこのフォーマットでは収まりきらないのだ。
彼のヘビーでダイナミックなギターは次作の「サーペンス・アルバス」で思う存分披露されるわけだが・・。

しかし、この米盤が悪い訳ではない。
曲自体は佳曲揃いだし、最初にどの国のアルバムを聴くかで印象が違うだけの話。
本作はアメリカでプラチナディスクになった秀作なのだ。

かく言う私も今は米盤も好き。
余裕のある方は日英米盤との聴き比べをお薦めします。

最初英盤を聞いたときは前作の不安を払拭した傑作だと感じた。曲順も英の方がしっくりくる。が、サイクスのプレイ、シャープなミックス。そして何よりデヴィッドのヴォーカル処理は断然米盤が秀逸。米より英に軍配が上がる曲はウェットなミックスでギャレーのコーラスが生える"GAMBLER""STANDING IN THE SHADOW"とミッキーのスライドソロがカットされていない”HUNGRY FOR LOVE"。どうでしょうか？後どうせやったら"NEED YOUR LOVE SO BAD"も入れんかい！

ホワイトスネイクの最高傑作!
ギターはミッキー・ムーディーのテイクを部分的に新加入のジョン・サイクス
に、ベースをコリン・ホッジキンソンのテイクから出戻りのニール・マーレイに差し替えてリミックス、曲順変更をしてアメリカでリリース。

７~９曲目は似たような曲が続いてしまうが、こちらのアメリカ盤の方が曲順がよい。　個人的には今まで聴いたアルバムベスト１０に入る超名盤。　日本盤とアメリカ盤どちらを買うか迷っている人がいれば間違いなくアメリカ盤を

薦めるが、コージー・パウエルのファンにはドラムの音が大きめの日本盤を薦めます。
