78年発売のクイーン７枚目のアルバムです。初期のクイーンは「オペラ座の夜」を始め、コンセプトアルバム的な統一感のあるアルバム作りをしていましたが、前作「世界に捧ぐ」より、個々の楽曲に重点を置いたシンプルな路線に変更しました。このアルバムも、クイーンファンの間で、ビートルズの名作「ホワイトアルバム」との共通点を見出す人が多いように、バラエティに富んだサウンドになっています。しかし、何といってもファンを驚かせたのはアラビア語で歌われる1ではないでしょうか。しかもこれが抜群に格好いいのです。他にも大ヒットした412を始め、クイーンらしいアクの強さを残しつつ、名曲の多いアルバムになっており、多くのロックファンに聞いて欲しいアルバムです。

オペラ座の夜、レースの日に続くクイーン傑作期の一枚。先の２枚の完成度はいうまでもないが、このアルバムの出来はまさに言語を絶する。オープニングのムスターファの中東趣味なフレーズから、最後の曲まで、まったく気を抜く暇を与えない。ロックシーンに残る名盤のうちのひとつといえるだろう。

クイーンのアルバムの中でもっとも印象的な始まりをするのはこのアルバムだと思う。だって、いきなり　イ~ブラヒ~ム♪ではじまり
アラビア調の曲が展開されるのだ。思いがけずびっくりである。
バイシクル・レースは現在（２００４／１２月現在）ＣＭソングとして使われているから耳にしたことがあるだろう。　ジェラシーは隠れ名曲的なバラードだ。そして　ドント・ストップ・ミー・ナウ。この曲はきいていてすごく気持ちいい爽快感に溢れている。
隠れ名曲の多い名盤といえるだろう。
