   デビューアルバム『オータム』の発売が80年、『ウインター・イントゥ・スプリング』が82年、『ディセンバー』も同年と、順調に発表してきた四季シリーズ。だが、この『サマー』が誕生したのは、91年とずいぶん後だった。タイトルのイメージどおり、ファンは待ちわびたことだろう。
   オリジナル作品に加えて、ランディ・ニューマン、フィリップ・アーバーグ、カーマイン・コッポラなどの作品を、ウィンストン流のアレンジで演奏している。おだやかな夏の風景を描いた「四季4部作」の完結盤だ。1年を通じて、4枚のアルバムを聴き分けたい。（新井由己）

彼のピアノは軽いタッチの中に色々な表現を内包している。
このアルバムはまさにそんな感じだ。
夏に一日を過ごすときにこのアルバムはとてもよい相談相手になる。
耳につくことなく、そして離れるわけでもなく、心地よく体に染み渡っていく感じがする。
重苦しい音ならば真剣に聞くところだが、会話の中にあっても不思議なくらいに自然に聞こえてくる。

でも本当はとてもしっかりと作られています。

来日記念だろうか？久々に旧譜がリリースされました。日本語解説が付いている点でも、オリジナルよりは評価できるかな？
音自体も良くなったような気がします。ＣＤの素材その他の技術革新は続いているので、そのせいかもしれません。夏の夕暮れにはこの一枚ははずせません。

「四季4部作」の最後を締めくくる"夏"の一枚。
秋の物寂しさ"Autumn"や冬の情景を描いた"December"、そして冬から春への生命の息吹を奏でる"Winter into Spring"から続くこの"Summer"は他に比較すると明るい曲調が並んでいるように感じる。
モンタナの夏がどういう感じなのかは分からないが、日本の夏の熱気を忘れさせてくれるさわやかな一枚だ。
