5.0 out of 5 stars 「Tricks of　the　light」のMTVで知りました, 2004/5/3
MTVで偶々見て惹かれ、苦労してこのｱﾙﾊﾞﾑを手に入れた（18年くらい前か？）が、今聴いてもその出来の良さに唸ってしまう。ﾄｰﾀﾙｱﾙﾊﾞﾑと言うと古いが、「To　France」の旋律が他のﾅﾝﾊﾞｰでも上手く配され、ひとつのｽﾄｰﾘｰのように一気に聞かせてしまう。男女それぞれのVOCALを対照的に響かせ、静謐と躍動、知性と野性、様々な切り口で聴く者に迫ってくる。勿論自慢のｷﾞﾀｰﾜｰｸも冴え渡り傑作の名に恥じない。前作収録の「MOONLIGHT　SHADOW」（これの12ｲﾝﾁｼﾝｸﾞﾙも探して買ったなあ）と共に、広く受け入れられる要素は充分あるのだが･･･。未だに「ﾁｭｰﾌﾞﾗｰﾍﾞﾙｽﾞ」の、と形容される彼のﾏｲﾅｰさが残念である。しかし！良い物は良い、それだけは間違いないのである。こういうのを知られざる名盤と
言うのであろう。

実は、CDではなく、ずいぶん前にレコードで買って持ってます。
おすすめです。
特に「To France」！Moonlight Shadowが好きな人なら、
この曲の頭、出だしの部分を聞いただけでゾクっとくるでしょう。
POPながら夢幻の世界っぽいって言えばいいのかな、
マイク・オールドフィールドでないと出来ない曲です！

１９８４年作品、リックフェンやモーリスパートも不参加のためか、前作、前々作にくらべるとやや地味な感じを受けるが、それでもひけをとらないこれも傑作だと思う。ベストトラックはやはり8、この曲の初体験は１９８８年夏にNHKＢＳ放送に登録し、この曲が映像散歩のような番組で流れていたのを聞いたことがきっかけだった。（この番組ではほかにもＥＬＯのエルドラドなども流していた。）これがマイクの初体験だった。男声ボーカル曲よりもマギーライリーのボーカル曲の方が爽やかだが、7の「ベルに救われた」は特に好き。次作のアイランドで歌うマックスベーコンには絶対に出せない世界だ。
