ニューヨーク出身のブルータルデスメタルバンドの代表格と言えば、MALEVOLENT CREATIONと彼らということになるんでしょうね。
解散してしまいましたがそんな彼らの代表作がこちら。
同じアメリカでもフロリダ系、カリフォルニア系の音とは一線を画す、ストロングで当たると弾け飛んでしまいそうな躍動感に満ちたリズムは、NYハードコアの影響を如実に感じさせる。

デスメタルバンドなのに黒人メンバーが在籍していることでも話題を呼んだ彼らだが、そういうリズミカルな側面はその影響もあるのだろう。
また曲構成は変拍子を多用し、かなり複雑だが難解なイメージはそれ程感じられず、アレンジメントのセンスの鋭さを感じさせてくれる。

デスメタルはこれだけ聴けばOK
リフの複雑さ、曲の展開、ブルータリィティー、邪悪さ、グロさすべてのデスメタルの要素がつめここまれている完璧なアルバム。何回聞いても飽きない 特にリフが複雑でかっこいい!カンニバルコープスが日本では人気だが本国アメリカでは後続に与えた影響からSUFFOCATIONの方が上の立場にあります。テクニカルデスメタル やブルータルデスメタルも もともとはこのバンドからうまれたものです オリジナルゆえに最高傑作!2006のいま聴いても新鮮です! おすすめは TORN INTO ENTHRALMENT と THE INVOKING
いまはやりのバンドなど足元にもおよびません

これを聴かずして何を聴くという程の名盤中の名盤です!テクニック、ブルータリティは申し分無い!更に彼等にしかないオリシナリティがめいっぱい詰まった傑作!特にギターが凄いザクザク、ゴリゴリなだけでなくエモーショナルなフレーズをガンガンかましてくる更にメロディックなギターソロを惜し気もなく挿入!コレがいい!メタルたるギターソロに圧倒的な構築美!最高!デスメタルの最高傑作のひとつ!サフォケイションの頂点である!
