本作の骨格となっているメンバーは、ザッパ（ｇ．ｖｏ．）、アイク・ウィリス（ｇ．ｖｏ．）、レイ・ホワイト（ｇ．ｖｏ．）、スティーヴ・ヴァイ（ｇ．）、トミー・マース（ｋｙｂ．）、アーサー・バロウ（ｂ．）、エド・マン（ｐｅｒｃ．）、デヴィッド・ロージマン（ｄｒ．）他にゲストとして、ボブ・ハリス、モーター・ヘッドシャーウッド、ジミー・カール・ブラック、デニー・ウォーリー・・・懐かしいメンツの名が挙がっている。若き日のヴァイのギター、バロウ＝ロージマンのテクニカルかつ心地よい、しなやかなリズムセクション。ウィリス＝ホワイト、の黒人コンビの強力リードヴォーカル、存在感抜群のジミーカール・ブラックのカントリー、等聴きどころは多数ある。私的には、とにかくこのアルバムはノン・ストップで歌、歌、歌である。これだけ贅沢なメンツをそろえても、なおかつ歌（＝メッセージ）へのこだわりが強いのも珍しい。詩は直截かつ意味深である、是非歌詞を読んでもらいたい。そうしてまたこの作品を聴いてもらいたい。

まず、ジャケットがイイ、FZの顔ジャケの中では一番好き。自信にあふれてます。
中身といえば、曲調が多様で、勢いがあって、華やかで、もともとは2枚組みなのに最後まであきずに一気に聴かせてくれます。入門盤とは言いませんが、初めての人にもオススメです。

自分はもともとギター好きでSteve Vai経由でFZにはまったもんで、6から10のメドレーや5のギターのラインを聴いてはびっくりしまくってました。とくに5はFZのギターソロをVaiが採譜してそれを元にユニゾンで合わせているのではないかと(違ってたらごめんなさい)。

あとはコーラスワークの凄さ。自分はギター好きなのでそっち中心になってしまいますが、このアルバムが歌中心なのは間違いなく、FZ、Ike Willis、Ray White等による図太いぐいぐい押しまくるようなコーラスがこのアルバムのカラーを決定しているように思えます。

その他にもブラックミュージックの影響だの、構成のすばらしさだの、演奏のレベルの高さだのいろいろありますが、その辺は実際に聴いて感じてください。

間口は広くて奥も深いという傑作です。

何年か前にあるアメリカ人男性（ステージミキサー）にフランクザッパのことを聴いてみたら即座に『にやっ』としてた。その後会話ははずんだ。パロディーソングが多いからかもしれない。バンドのメンバーは全員が守備範囲が相当に広い才能ありまくり（テクニカル面＋センス面において）の個性とんがりやろうばっかりなのだ。世界でもトップクラスのメンバーが集結しているのもすごい。そういう精鋭集団がパロディーを真剣にやらかすからやばい。

このアルバムはわりと聴きやすいかもしれない。しかし歌詞が聴きとれないと完全には笑えない＝なので敷き居はかなり高い＝和訳を読んだのとダイレクトに理解できるのでは感動値は相当に違う。英語のダブルミーニングやスラングなどの訓練＆学習が必須である。<!P>楽曲はがちっと固められており、パロディーの毒はかなり強い。たとえば＝カントリーソングをばかにしたナンバー＝『HARDER THAN YOUR HUSBAND』。ターゲットになっているのはさまざまである。まな板にのせられている者は＝グルーピー、ヤッピー（日本ならヤンエグ、外資系の金持ちたち）、パンク、ディスコ、１０代の人間、マスコミ、宗教の欺瞞、自殺問題、フィットネス産業、アメリカ社会の欺瞞と多岐に渡る＝時代はリーガン大統領時代である。

ギターにはスティーブバイが参加しており、ザッパライクなフリーキーギターを披露している。ザッパのソングライティングセンスはかっとん
でおり、おもわず笑ってしまう。彼の鋭い文明批評がファンキーな楽曲にのって縦横無尽に展開する。やや『際どい性的な描写は』少ないと思われる。

『I'M A BEAUTIFUL GUY』のヤッピー批判はかなり刺激的。ここでの楽曲の展開はスリリング。バイのギターは確実に『しゃべっています』。

目まぐるしくチェンジするリズムとテンポ、聴く者を飽きさせない魅力と『クールな視点に立つ』批評眼が最高である。サタディーナイトライブを皮肉った『CONEHEAD』も思わずにやり。ユーモアと音楽的に高度なアンサンブルを同居させながら独自の世界を演出している。

やっぱし、聴いて即座に笑えないとだめかも、字幕を見なくてもセリフが理解できるリスニング能力が必須ですかね。十分な英語力が必須ですね。敷き居高いです。
