かつての邦題「興奮の一夜」。
このアルバムからＦＺがメインでヴォーカルをとるようになる。
よって曲のキーはあまり高くならず、難解さが無く（良い意味での）ポップである。

しかし、ＦＺがメインではない Fifty-Fifty ではリッキー・ランセロッチ（酒で酔っ払ってステージを務められずクビになったらしい）がメインヴォーカルである。キン・ヴァッシィというヴォーカリストもドラッグか酒が原因でクビに。
デューク、ポンティ、ＦＺとソロの応酬が激しい曲である。

Montana はデンタル・フロスについての曲で、ルース・アンダーウッドが大活躍。
こんな変拍子が激しい曲に可笑しい歌詞をつけるとは流石ＦＺ！（笑）

なお、クレジットされてませんがアイク＆ティナ・ターナーのバックコーラス、アイケッツとティナ・ターナーがバックコーラスで参加してます。

ワンサイズ~、アポストロフィ、ホットラッツ、アブソリュートリー~などと並んでスタジオ盤では入門編の筆頭に置きたい一枚。
個人的にも現在４０枚を超える我がザッパコレクションの中でも一番好きなもののひとつ（一番好き、が他にもたくさんあるが）
ロック、ファンク、ソウル、フュージョン（そしてブラックユーモア）、これらの要素があくまで「曲」という形式が保たれたままコラージュ的に組み合わされている。
ジョージ・デュークのキーボードやシンセ、ホーン、コーラス隊（７ではテープ操作か何かで変調させられている）などがところどころ、躁病的統合不全やパラノイアックな混乱をまとったブラックユーモアを分裂症的な突拍子の無さでさしはさむ。
渋く、胡散臭いザッパ自身のヴォーカル（これほど好きな声は無い）それから驚異的なギタースタイル（これほどすごいギターは無い）（ソロは４つの曲に収録）を堪能するにも適している。
１のドコドコドラムとザッパのヴォーカル、４のソロ合戦（デューク必聴！）５の変態ファンクとパラノイアックな混乱、７の、ホーン、コーラスとルース・アンダーウッドのマリンバなどの躁病的アンサンブル、これら聴きどころ満載。
Ｐファンク、フュージョン、変拍子、ＹＭＯ、クラフトワーク、プリンス、マックス・ツンドラやマウスオンマーズ、トータスなどのユーモラスなテクノや電子音楽が好きな人、ブラックユーモア好きにもおすすめ

1973年リリースの本作はザッパにとってターニングポイントとなった一枚だろう。一つは自分
自身で歌をかますようになったのと、もう一つはサウンド面で複雑な手法を良い意味でこそげ
落としたことだ。よって本作は全体的にコンパクトな小品楽曲で配置構成されており尚且つそ
のどれもがファンキーポップな内容で誰彼構わず腰をふって踊りたくなるようなとても判りや
すいものになっている。
だがそこは盛り上げ方のツボを熟知しているザッパのこと曲の短さとは反比例するように見せ
場が沢山散りばめられています。なかでも[4]の「フィフティー・フィフティー」中盤部での
デュークのキーボードソロからポンティのヴァイオリンソロ、そしてザッパのギターソロと
移行するスリリングな持ち回しはかなりゴージャスでかっちょいいですね。

全曲すこぶる魅力的ですがアルバムラストを飾る「モンタナ」は個人的に特に好きですね。
とろけるようなスロームーディーな曲調で体は気持ちよく弛緩してるところへ突然切り裂く
ように入ってくるザッパのバカテクギターソロが脳を強烈なドライヴ状態へ...
その何ともいえないミスマッチ的コントラストにはかなり嵌ります。嵌りすぎてトリップ中毒
を起こすという副作用の強い聴き過ぎ注意曲ですね（勿論僕にとってですが（笑））。

さて、もう一つ忘れちゃならないザッパの魅力は歌詞ですが、かなり好いですよ（何がいいん
だが自分でもよー判らんっちゃ判らんけど（笑））。
お下品な方はもはや言うまでもないけど、もう一方で[2]の「アイム・ザ・スライム」なんか
ではTVによる大衆煽動を痛烈に皮肉ってます。ザッパらしいぶった切りが最高です（これも
らしいに定義はないですけどねー）。まあ何はともあれザッパ作品のなかでは聴きやすいので
ザッパ初心者にはお奨めの一枚です。
