Product Description

Amazon.com essential recording

"This is the voice of your conscience, baby..." The recording debut of the Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention is a brilliantly wicked counter-strike to the flower power sensibilities prevalent at the time of it's release in 1966. Arguably rock music's first true "concept album," Zappa's aural collage mashes together chunks of psychedelic guitars, outspoken political commentary, cultural satire, and avant-garde musical sensibilities, and then hides it all under cleverly crafted pop melodies. Not diminished in the slightest by the passage of time, Freak Out! remains as vital and relevant today as it was in the 1960's. --Andrew Boscardin

5.0 out of 5 stars

4.0 out of 5 stars Learn english, 2007/3/19
A Kid's Review
This album is supposed to be a “humorous” album, and a lot of the songs present in this album are making fun of the types of music that were popular at the time. Being a classical composer, Zappa probably did not think very highly of “pop” music, so this album was probably his way of making fun of the art form. I would say that 2/3 of the humor present in this album comes from the sarcastic lyrics. If you have a tenuous grasp on the English language, though, the joke would fly right part your head and this would sound like an "average pop album". You would have not any idea that “wowwie zowwie” is about a lover who is so enthralled with his finance that he's willing to overlook her hygiene, with lyrics like “I don't care if you brush you teeth, I don't care if you shave you legs”. The social commentary on the American education system in “hungry freaks daddy” would also fly right over your head. If you are fluent in English, you will realize that the lyrics in many of these songs are extremely sarcastic. I speak fluent English, so I get the joke.

2.0 out of 5 stars
By ルートx (中近東) - See all my reviews
The Best Band You Never heard in Your Life、One Size Fits All、Zappa in New York、死後に発表されたベスト盤、Latherとか繰り返して聴きたい作品は他に幾らでもある。
