~NYパンク伝説のギタリスト重鎮二人、
ロバートクイン（リチャードヘル、ルーリード）とリチャードロイド（テレヴィジョン）
を左右に従えた夢のようなアルバム。
オーソドックスなスタイルに見えて古臭くなく、
瞬間的に見え隠れする狂気と情緒的な二人のプレイに１曲目からひりひりとさせられる。
すでに伝説になりそうだった二人をキャリアに臆する事な~~くバンドメンバーに迎えいれた、マシューのこのセンスに尽きる。
どちらかというと甘くなりがちな彼の楽曲を少なからず緊張度の高いものにしている。
楽曲が若さ溢れ瑞々しく、１発録りであろうストレートな録音も素晴らしい。
彼の作品で同様にRロイド参加作はあるが、
このアルバムだけ、ジャケットを含め、
何かまるで１stだけで解散したバンドのよう~~な統一感と雰囲気を出している。
ロバートクイン氏の冥福をお祈りします。~

個人的にビートルズの「レットイットビー　Naked」を聴いてると、本作を思い出して無性に聴きたくなる。生々しい息遣いが感じられところや、ジョンの影もちらつかせる為か？本作はスタジオで出来上がったばかりのミックス前のものを聴いている感じがして好きだ。まるでスタッフになったかのように、スタジオのブース前で聴いている感じがしてリアルだ。最低限のバンドアンサンブルで、どれも歌を大切にした生々しいサウンドに仕上がっていて普遍性を持たせている。また、針を落としたスクラッチ音なんかも入っておりﾚｺｰﾄﾞを意識したセンスも微笑ましい。懐古趣味もあったかもしれないが、リアルで今の音に変わりはない。加えてこの人は自分のメロディをしっかり持っているところが素晴らしい。例えばヴァースの終わり部分を半音上下させている奥田民夫のように、ソングライティングの独特の癖は１st,2ndの曲が顕著だったが、本作では緩やかに現れていて円熟も感じさせる。ほんと今から何年後かでも、聴けてしまうピュアなクラシックロックだ。

これは私の幻想なのかもしれないけど、９０年代の音楽ってグランジ的なものが主流で本当につまらないものが多かったと思う。そんな中でもリアル・タイムで聴いたものの中で一発で“いいな”と思ったアルバムも結構あるわけで、そんな“いい”アルバムの一つがこれでした。パワー・ポップというものも世間でいわれているものはかなり違うところまで来てしまったんだな・・・と当時は思ったものだけどシンプルで良いメロディを聞かせる音楽という意味ではその伝統を受け継いだ素晴らしいアーティストだと思う。そんな素晴らしいアーティストが作り上げた、おそらく９０年代を代表するアルバムの一つだと思いますが、そんな重みをあえて与えることなくシンプルに楽しんだ方が良いでしょうね。低音が持ち上げ気味になっているのが９０年代らしい特徴ですが、あまり嫌味にならない微妙なラインを維持していてセンスを感じます。
