   ランディ・ブレッカー＆マイケル・ブレッカーを中心とするブレッカー・ブラザーズは、1970年代から80年代初頭にかけて一世を風靡した人気フュージョン・バンド。このグループを通じてフュージョンの魅力を知ったという人も多い。約10年のブランクを経て、見事に復活したのは92年。同年8月に来日してマウント・フジ・ジャズ祭やブルーノート東京に出演したのが懐かしい。
   この再結成盤は81年発表の『ストラップ・ハンギン』以来11年ぶりのアルバムということで、大いに話題になった。曲といい演奏といい、文句なしにカッコいい。ファンクをベースにした従来のテイストを保ちながら、新たな要素としてレゲエやアフロ的要素を導入、タイトかつ強力な演奏を行っている点がスリリングだ。
   ドラマーにデニス・チェンバースを起用したのも効果的で、驚くほどパワフルかつシャープなサウンドに圧倒される。再結成バンドといえば、過去の焼き直しというのが相場だが、このバンドは別。デヴィッド・サンボーンのゲスト参加もうれしい。（市川正二）

11年ぶりの復活盤。以前からの感触を残した曲はもちろんだが,新しい試みに満ちた曲の数々も,この兄弟ならではのヴァイブレーションを放つ。テクニックもすごいが,それ以上にそうした意味で,やっぱワン&オンリーだなー,と感慨もひとしおなのだった。

今や超売れっ子のドラマー＝デニチェンを迎えてのソリッドでシャープなハードボイルド路線かつ踊れる要素も持つ多面的なアルバム。ゲストの演奏陣は昔からのD.SANBORNを含めかなり豪華な布陣。ギターがマイクスターンにディーンブラウンというキレモノ。アンサンブルは相変わらずすごい。一糸乱れぬ緊張感溢れる曲展開、疾走感溢れるソロパート、昔のまんまである。ただしHEAVY NETAL BEBOPを期待してはいけない。あそこまで、突き抜けてブチきれて演奏はしていない。ほどよく抑制された、楽曲重視の路線だからだろうか。まとまりがよい曲が続く。このアルバムは復活したBRECKER BROTHERSをアピールするのに十分な程、生き生きとしている演奏がつまっている。雑多な音楽のジャンルを軽く料理する彼等のアレンジ能力と作曲能力に毎度の事ながら驚かされる。この作品も例外ではない。リズム面での面白さを楽しむのもいいかもしれない。そんないろんなものを飲み込んだごったに音楽だ。最高に脳天気でクール、不思議なバンドだ。

硬派なジャズフュージョンを聞かせるユニット。再結成してのアルバム。いろんな音楽のエッセンスをまとめて聞かせるのが彼等のいいところだったが、今回もそれは守られている。高度な演奏テクとセンスを持つメンバーを起用してそれを見事に再現。ファンキーでテクニカルな演奏が聴ける。１０点中１０点。

最初に#1Song For Baryを聴いてみて、当時のリズムシーンにあわせた
タイトなSequencerでスタートしていた点さもありなんと思えたが、
曲中至る所に旧Brecker Brosを思わせるメロディラインが挟まり、昔の
片鱗を感じホットしたことを覚えている。
全編に渡りBeatアレンジの多様化を図っているように思えるが、次作へ
続くLoop Soundとは何ぞやといった当時の彼らの問題意識を垣間見る。
とはいえ昔を知る身からすればGood Graciousに見る昔っぽさに心底
喜びを求めてしまう。進歩がないせいか、懐古趣味なのか。。。
ただ、冷静に聴くと、思い切ってリスタートした割には彼らが歳を
とりすぎたせいか、途中から昔に日和ってしまったのか、はたまた
ファンサービスなのか、タイトルの割に冒険不足を感じてしまった。
その点が△１点。かな。
