本書は，同シリーズのBasic 2200とCore 1800のレベルの差を埋めるために発売された本です。

この本は，日常的に使用する英語に焦点を当てた本ですが，日常英語といっても英会話に偏っていることはありません。会話文，メール，ブログ，広告，簡単な記事など，多種多様な英文が収録されており，読んでいて飽きがこず，さらに内容が新しいので，興味の沸く記事が多いです。
　それでいて，語彙レベルとしては英検２級，TOEIC600〜700点も十分焦点に入れられる内容です。
記事も，かなり実用的な英語やTOEICの受験などに向いているといえます。例えば，TOEICの英文に初めて触れた方は，特に長文の英文が学校で習った英語とはかなり違うと感じると思います。特に，日本人の得点率が低いPart7などに出てくる英文は，教科書，参考書ではまず見ることのない文章が多いです。自分も最初は非常に戸惑いを覚えました。
そういった文章への無理のない，楽しく学べる入門としても，本書は非常に活用できると感じました。かなりすばらしい内容だと思います。
あえて指摘するならば，色づかいがかなりオレンジ基調なので，少し目にきついかもしれません。難点といえばそれくらいです。

私は２０年ぶりに大学生をやっていますが、常に英語がネックになっています。特に単語、熟語を機械的に覚えることは無理になっていて、文脈の中で理解しないと定着しません。Basicを使い倒したので次にCoreを買ったのですが、そのレベルの差が大きくて何ヶ月もそのままでした。そんなときに大学の生協でこれをみつけたときの喜びは大きかったです。とても読みやすく、データも新しいために、すいすい読み進められます。BasicからCoreへの中継役割というだけではなく、これ一冊の完成度は高いと思います。特に私のようにやり直し英語をされている方にお薦めしたいです。

シリーズの中でも、この本が一番良いように思います。内容は日常的な英語に限定されているのですが、英会話で使う英語のレベルは本書のレベルなので、学ぶ価値は充分にあります。ハイレベルの単語を知っていても英会話を出来ない人も多々います。この本と、それに近いレベルの学習書の音読を続けるのが、日常的な英会話を身に付けるには最適です。ハイレベルの単語を覚える必要はありません。英語の勉強を難しく考えるのは止めにしましょう。
