   学習法を紹介した本の中には抽象的な「学習の心構え」を語ったものも多いが、「英語は知識ではなく技術」だと認識する著者のメソッドは、「日本人の会話練習友達を持とう」「ディクテーションをしよう」「ネイティブの文章を写してみよう」など、どれも非常に具体的だ。しかも、メソッドの実践法についても懇切丁寧なアドバイスがつく。たとえばディクテーションをする場合は英語を50~100回聞いてから、わからない部分を英文で確認するといった具合だ。著者の助言にすべて従って勉強するのは相当な努力が必要だが、きちんと実践すればかなりの効果が期待できるはずだ。（原 智子）

この本は、スランプになった時に読むと勇気倍増、元気もりもりとなる作用がある。読む、聞く、書く、、、、ことについての各種英語勉強法が実例をもとに詳細に記述されている。英語学校に通えなくても、周囲に外人がいなくても、この本を読んで参考にすれば、今までの自分の学習方法への参考意見が聞こえてくる。全体を一気読みしてもよいし、気分転換に好きな箇所から読んでもいいし、勇気づけられることが多い本であった。

スピーキング・リーディング・リスニング・ライティングに分けて，それぞれに必要な勉強法が緻密具体的かつ理論的に書かれていており，非常にためになる本である。なぜ，その方法が有効かを非常に説得的に書いてある。著書の言うとおりにやれば，必ず英語力をのばせるという確信がわいてくる内容である。類書のなかには，自分の生い立ちや自慢話をとうとうと書く本も多いが，この本には，そのようなことが一切排除されている。
ただ，ひとつ難をいえば，どういう教材がいいのかについて書かれていないことである。

良い本です。英語をまじめに勉強したい人であれば参考になることが必ずどこかに書いてあります。留学や英語での仕事の機会を英語力上達にどう活かすかというような実践との併用に関してもう少し書かれてあれば満点にしていました。また、レベル別に解説してあるわけではないので、自分の英語力のレベルをまず把握した上で書かれてあることを自分用に再整理して学習に活かせばいいと思います。
