2004年7月から8月にかけて、中国の重慶･成都･済南･北京で開催されたアジアカップ。
周知のように辛くもジーコジャパンは2連覇を遂げた。
毎回ハラハラの試合展開ながらも勝ち続ける日本代表だけでなく、
いわゆる"反日ブーイング"がサッカーファン以外の日本人にもこの大会への注目を集め、
果ては首相が論評、日本人も反中に傾く人が増加し、さらに中国側に反論されるなど
国家間の政治問題にまで発展したスポーツ大会であった。

　この作品はこの中国でのこの"反日"騒動を3人の"ジャーナリスト"がそれぞれ分析するものである。
しかし、2004年10月に緊急出版されたタイトなスケジュールだったとしても、
本当に理解を深めるにはこの3人の選定が残念である。
この3人の"ジャーナリスト"はだれも最初のブーイングが起きた重慶には居なかった人たちであり、
彼らは某一般紙の思わせぶりな一面トップ記事やテレビで報じられてから取材をはじめている。
　3人の"ジャーナリスト"は重慶が重要な国際大会の開催地となったのはこれがほぼ初めてであることに
誰も触れておらず、一般的にいわれている「共産党政権の愛国教育説」「中国国内の不満のはけ口説」や
「靖国問題説」についていきなり検証が始まってしまう。

　大会の最初から最後まで現地の中国人と一緒にスタジアムで仕事をしながらブーイングを実体験した者として、
遅ればせながらもあの騒動に対する書籍が出版されていることを知り、期待して購入したが裏切られた思いである。
この構成ではこの反日騒動について考察を深めるには十分な参考とはならないだろう。
緊急性も大事だが、日中の友好交流を目指す出版社としてはもう少し時間をかけても
読者の考察や判断に役立つ多様な分析を提示するべきだっただろう。
核心を突くような指摘もなく当時の雑誌や新聞の分析とあまり変わらない内容が残念である。
