島はある意味日本の縮図である。
この本を読んでいると、日本がよくわかる。
いや、そこまで大上段に振りかぶらなくても、文章の向こうから、島に住む人々の顔が浮かぶ気がする。
地図やデータ、ガイドがしっかりしているから、すぐにでも行ける気がしてしまう。1300ページを超える大著にも拘わらず、この定価というのは破格だと思う。
購入した時には平成の市町村合併に対応した「掲載の島々　市町村合併の現況（平成17年8月1日現在）」という表が挟み込まれていた。

この本は日本の島という島のくらしや生活、最寄の交通機関など
よくぞ調べた！という情報がくわしく載っています。
でも読みやすい。どこから読んでもたのしい。
１３００ページもあるのにこのお値段。
労力とか考えたら５０００円くらいしてもいいのかしらと
思います。

人に歴史あり、といいますが、
島に風土あり　だと思います。
もう、みるだけで楽しい。
８月にでたばかりなので、情報は新しい。合併のこともくわしく載ってる。
いろんな島にいきたくなる本です。

日本の８００の島の情報を網羅した貴重な辞典離島の美しい海でこの夏泳ぎたい。いま私が注目しているのは沖縄の伊平屋島 出版元の日本離島センター のしましまネットでは現地レポーターが登録されていて面白い。 世界で屈指の美しい海があるケラマ諸島の無人島なんかの情報をこの本で探した。
