　本書は『文藝春秋・特別版・私が愛する日本』(2006年8月臨時増刊号)に掲載された「大特集・外国人52人が語る　私は日本のここが好き!」を元に、新たに2名のインタビューを加えて単行本として刊行したものです。
　当時はちょうど中国や韓国で反日デモや暴動が頻発した時期でした。我々はこんなにも近隣諸国から嫌われているのか、と多くの日本人はショックを受けました。
　しかし、反日ばかりではない、日本が大好きな外国人も大勢いる。彼ら「外の眼」に映る今の日本の姿をきいてみよう、ということで始まったインタビューは、雑誌掲載後、「日本の良さを再認識した」「当たり前だと思っていたことが大切だと気づかされた」等々、大きな反響を呼びました。
　あれから数年が経ちましたが、混迷する世界の中で、依然として私たちは、自らの立ち位置を見失いがちです。日本がこれからどうあるべきか、何を守り伝えていかなければならないのか、今一度「外の眼」に映る自らの姿に真摯に向き合う必要があるようです。

「雨の日、傘を持つ多くの人が交差点を行きかっても傘がぶつからずスムーズに流れていく。こういうのを見るのがすきなんです。」
若干元の文章を改ざんしてますが（笑）、こんな細かいところにまで日本人の謙譲の心を見出してくれて褒めてくれる人がいることに恥ずかしながら嬉しく思います。
普段全く気づくはずが無いことが「日本人の良さ」として紹介されており心が和みます。
これからも世界に好かれる、古き良き日本人の心を忘れないで生きて生きたいですね。

旅行の列車の中でこの本を読みました。
すごく気楽に読めて、日本の善い事のみ掲載されているこの本は、私を最高の気分にしてくれました。
日本から一歩も出たことのない私にとって当り前だったことが、素晴らしい事なのだと認識させられ、
この旅では、ちょっとした事に感謝、感激できて最高の旅となりました。
気がつかない日本の良さを知ることの出来る最高の本だと思います。

外国人の方達が感じた日本の良さは、ほぼそのまま日本人が忘れかけている日本の良さである。欧米文化ばかりに目を向けて、大切な物を失いつつある日本人がアイデンテティーを守る為に、とりあえずこの本を読んで感じる事から始めてみませんか。
