突然の絶版とそれに続く「差別なのか？」という一連の議論から１７年。『ちびくろさんぼ』が帰ってきた！そして今は私の手元にも一冊。

園児だった頃、夢中になって読んだ。私は「まんぼ」と「じゃんぼ」は「さんぼ」の兄弟だと固く信じていたのだが、やはり園児の記憶はそれほど正確ではなく、今回入手して読み直しさんぼの父母であることが判明。

それから、虎がバターになってしまうところばかり覚えていたのだけど、その前に赤い服やブーツや傘を買ってもらう箇所があることも思い出した。

やっぱり読み終わった後は、５歳だった頃と同じように「ほっとけーき」が無性に食べたくなってしまった。

１６９枚は難しいけど、バターをいっぱいつけて沢山食べよう！

小さいときに大好きだった本が復刊されて単純にうれしい。決して差別的な本では無いと信じているし、子どもたちにも読んで好きになって欲しい。

大好きです！幼稚園ぐらいだったと思うのですが、トラがグルグル回ってバターになってオヤツに！！という一連の流れがたまりませんでした。

ところが、ある日姉が「差別がどうのこうので、軍服着た外人さんが絵本を回収にくる」という事を私に吹き込み、真に受けた私は、良く理解できないながらも、見つからないように絵本を隠しました。
あの頃の不安は忘れられません（笑）

手許にある1985年岩波版の「ちびくろ・さんぼ」とほぼ同じでした。
紙質とカラーが少し異なるのと、
岡部冬彦氏の描いた「ちびくろ・さんぼ 2」
(さんぼの双子の弟たちがさらわれるお話・文はヘレン･バンナーマン氏)
がカットされている部分を除いて。

子ども時代に親しみ、楽しんだこの本を、
自分の3人の子たち一人ひとりに贈りたいと、今回購入しました。
4歳、2歳の子どもはお話を楽しみ、
1歳児は、とてもカラフルで軽快な絵に惹きつけられているようです。

絶版が惜しまれる絵本はたくさんありますが、
「ちびくろ・さんぼ」はその最たるものでした。
この復刊がはずみになると良いなと、心から思います。
