算数脳は、「見える力」と「詰める力」だとしています。
一言で言うと、算数ができる子と言うのは、
小学校3年生までに夢中になって外遊びをしたことがある子供だそうです。
最終章では、
「子供を伸ばす親・潰す親」「親たちのNGワード・NG行動」
と算数以外の教育一般論を展開しています。
また、力の伸びる遊び術と称して、いくつかのゲームが紹介されています。
数が少ないので、これを基にして自分で同類の問題を考えるのがよいでしょう。
小三までに育てたいとありますが、大人になってからでも遅くはないと思いました。

我が子は4年生。「小３までに育てたい」って書いてあるし、あーあ間に合わないのかなぁと思いつつも、ピーターフランクル推薦の帯を見て、何故か購入してしまいました。
正直な気持ち。読んで良かった！この本に出会わなければ、我が子が何でこんなに出来ないのか、一生分からずに苦しんでいたことと思います。子どもを勉強嫌いにさせてしまったのは、実は母親である私だった！あとがきで、高濱先生が高学年でもやるべきことはたくさんある、と書いてくださったおかげで、はっと目覚めることが出来ました。もう一度子どもと向き合って、たくさん褒めてあげようと思います。

　本屋で手にとって見て、「子どもを持つ親が読む本でしょ」などとパラパラ見ているうちに、問題が解けないのがくやしくて、つい買ってしまいました。そう、私は「小学校高学年で算数挫折した子」です。
　算数にトラウマがあると同時に未だに憧れが強く、「もし算数ができていればもう少し論理的な考えができたかも…」などという思いに囚われつつ生きてきました。
「補助線が浮かばない」中学生Cさんのエピソードには、「これって私？」と思わず苦笑い。もう今更「算数脳」になるのは無理だとしても、もう一度算数を学んでみたいと本気で思いました。30年前に高濱先生みたいな先生が近くにいらしたら…！人生変わっていたかも。
　私は無理でも、せめて甥っ子には頑張ってほしいと思い、もう１冊買わせていただきました。「親たちのNGワード・NG行動」を読んで、義妹は、「つい言っちゃうんですよね…」と反省しておりました。子どもに勉強をさせるだけではなくて、親も勉強することが大切なんですね。親って大変。
