何故か忌み嫌われるクモとクモの巣…
でも実はとってもお役立ち~ということを
キュートな主人公クモのヘレンによって知らせて
くれる本です。もちろん深いところでは
この世に不必要な生き物などいない！！という
メッセージもあるのでしょうが。
舞台が動物園というところ、そしてふだんだったら
存在すら忘れているクモにスポットを当てたところ
ハリーシリーズの絵を描いているグレアムが
文まで作っているところ…表情豊かな生き物達の
絵と一緒に、いろいろなお楽しみがある本です。

優しい語り口の文とかわいらしい絵で、クモのヘレンと動物園の動物たちとの共生がさりげなく、しかしきちんと伝わってきます。
普段は完成したものしか見かけないクモの巣の作り方や、クモの卵も登場するので、虫好きの子にとっても大いに興味をそそられるようです。
小学校で読み聞かせたあと、子どもたちの中から、「ヘレン、かわいい｣「ヘレン、やさしい」というかわいいつぶやきが聞こえました。
