内容紹介

そしていま、日本へ。

写真家として20年間、著者はこれまで数え切れないほど世界各地へ撮影にでかけてきました。しかしこれまで、故国の風景をふりかえることはありませんでした。

その意味でこの作品集は、著者にとってエポックメイキングな作品となるでしょう。日本の人里のありのままの姿、無秩序に散らばった風景、昔と今が交錯する時間を、著者は異邦人のような感覚でとらえ、そしてそこにときめきや隠された美しさを見いだしています。

2007年2月、雪解けの東北地方から、著者は大型カメラ(4×5)をもって、日本各地の撮影をスタートさせました。この写真集には、海や川、森や草原のほか、雪原の漁船、山裾の田植え、バス停の地蔵、農家の昼休み、軽トラック、菜の花が咲く線路など、今そこにある、素朴で飾らない日本の風景がおさめられています。そこに生きること、そこに美を発見していくこと、この写真集からは、そうした思いが静かに伝わってきます。


著者について

1967年長野県松本市生まれ。
県立田川高等学校卒業後、東京の印刷会社で働く。退社後、1年間のカナダ暮らしをきっかけに写真家としてデビューする。以後、1年のうち約半年を欧米で生活し、旺盛な撮影活動を行っている。自ら決めたテーマを長い年月をかけて丹念に取材し、作品集として発表する。絵心ある構図で、光や影を繊細に捕らえた叙情的な作品は人気が高く、今、最も注目されている若手写真家の一人である。本書は、日本をテーマにした最初の作品集。

2003年 カナダメディア大賞受賞
2007年 写真家協会新人賞受賞

書物を購入する時、ひとは通常、何を基準に選択するでしょう。
多くの場合、“好きな作家の作品だから”、或いは“内容に興味があったから”のどちらかではないかと思います。

しかし本作に関して言えば、人気風景写真家・吉村和敏氏のファンも、日本の風景写真のファンも、最初は戸惑いを感じるのではないでしょうか。

これは氏の作品集でありながらも、光や影や風や音に溢れた、抒情的で繊細で詩的な、その作風は殆ど存在しません。
日本の風景を写した作品集でありながらも、絵葉書に登場する、美しい寺や神社や田園などの、日本独自の風景は存在しません。

しかし、そのザワザワした思いも、新鮮な驚きや発見をする中で、やがてはきっと、心地良さへと変わってゆくことでしょう。
魅了されずにはいられない、独特の味わいが、其処此処に溢れています。

堤防、サイロ、空地の立て看板、錆びたトタン板、歩道橋、標識、製材所、気球、新興住宅地、網と浮子、注意書き、黄色いプラスチックケース、閉店した海鮮市場、漁具置き場、踏切、市の作業車、除雪車、仁王像とバス停、神籤、墓地と月。

平凡な風景写真家なら、避けてしまうような、それどころか、意識さえしないような、被写体や天候や色合いも、繊細なアーティストの心に捉えられると、物語性のある、美しい芸術作品になってしまう…。

異彩を放つ芸術家とは、その作品自体が優れているだけではなく、それ以前に、その着眼点からして違っていること、スタート地点からもう、凡人とはまるで異なることに、改めて気づかされます。

高級紙使用の豪華大型版。これがまた、水墨画のような作品の魅力を、より一層引き立てています。

間違いなく、過去には存在しなかったタイプの日本風景写真集。眺めれば眺めるほどに、その魅力に惹き込まれてゆく、一生愛おしみたいようなアートブックです。
