きっかけはDJ中、次に回すレコードをすぐに選ぶ必要に迫られ、シングルレコードのスリーブにメモがわりのクレジットを描き始めた事であった。それはどんどん発展していって、1枚もののイラストとなる。毎晩仕事終わりの寝しな、酒を燃料に、地道に一枚づつ描き貯められた手描きジャケットに、しまいには200枚を超えるシングル盤が収まることになった(現在も増殖中)。この本はその、音楽にインスパイアされた200枚のドローイングから選りすぐりの96枚を集めたもの。ポスカで描かれた、衝動的で、ちょっと抜けてて、ときにエロな作品はジョーのピュアで原始的エネルギーを感じさせると同時に平日夜の会社員の哀愁も漂わせる。

著者について

キングジョー 本名・森本吉哲(もりもとよしあき)。1968年香川県高松市生まれ。現・大阪在住。O型。10代の終わりにガレージパンクと出会い衝撃を受ける。その衝撃を方法論に置き換え。以降、文章・イラスト・バンド・DJなどの活動を始め、現在にいたる。著書に多数の『SOFT, HELL! 』シリーズがある。小野瀬雅生(クレイジー・ケン・バンド)、The Phantom Surfers、ザ・ハイロウズ、ギターウルフ、カーネーション、5678ズ、ナイロン、夜のストレンジャーズ、イグワナズ等のジャケット・アートワークやその他イラストを手がける。『SOFT, HELL! 』新刊編集制作中。普段は会社員。

ガレージパンクが初期衝動のロックなら
この画集『SINGLES GOING STEADY』は初期衝動のアートだ！

ライブイベントやクラブでＤＪをする際、レコードの検索がしやすいようにと
７inchレコードの内袋に描き始めたのがキッカケだそうだが、まずその発想に脱帽！

キングジョー氏の回すレコードはどれも腰に来るサウンドだけど
この『SINGLES GOING STEADY』に収められたイラストはどれも腰が砕ける破壊力！

レコードジャケットを味のあるタッチで模写したようなマンマのモノもあれば
可愛らしいキャラクターやイカツいバンドをイメージしたイラストがあったり、
曲のタイトルからイメージしたようなイラストがあったり、
ストーリー性（でっち上げ含む）のあるイラストもあったり、
果ては『なんじゃこりゃ？』ってなイラストまである！
変則パンチの連打を食らいまくって頭がクラクラする画集だ！！

そして、なにより自分で描いてみたくなる…そんな初期衝動アートなのです。
