原田 実
1961年広島市生まれ。広島市在住。歴史研究家。と学会会員。龍谷大学卒業後、1984年から3年半、八幡書店(出版社)に勤務。古史古伝・霊学書籍の広告を担当。その後、広島大学研究生、昭和薬科大学文化史・心理学研究室助手(1990~93年)を経て、歴史研究・執筆活動に入る。またそのかたわらで、「市民の古代研究会」代表を務める(2001~02年)(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

5.0 out of 5 stars 非常に平易に書かれた入門書。マニアにとっても必携, 2008/10/25
妖怪・幽霊など特定のジャンルに拘ることなく幅広く、また
各時代における各化け物の扱われ方・位置づけなども含めて
解説された、豊富な内容を平易に書かれた良書。
各化け物を紹介する本は多いが、「化け物史」を偏り無く
紐解いたものは意外と少ないように思う。

語り口調も非常にくだけていて優しく、お茶を飲みながらの
少人数の座学、とでも言いたくなるような雰囲気でステキです。
特に化け物好きというわけではない方にも、興味深い読み物として十分お勧めできる。

個別の化け物においては、もう少し掘り下げて欲しいと思う内容や、
駆け足でざっと説明されていて、全く知識を持たない読者が読むと誤解を招くのではないか
と思われる部分がほんの僅か見受けられたが、カバーしている内容の豊富さや
頁数の限度を考えると、欠点と呼べるほどでは無い。
そもそも、個別の化け物の紹介本ではなく「化け物史」を扱うものであることを
考えれば、必要にして十分というくらいの情報量かと思う。

マニアにとっては、新たな発見をするための書ではなく、確認の為の
読み物だろうか。
しかし頭の中で散逸している知識をささっと整理整頓してもらったような
読後感があったので、知識が豊富なマニアにとっても十分な価値があると思う。
個別の化け物に関してはそれぞれそれなりに見聞きしていたというくらいの
化け物初心者であれば、体系付けて説明される本書によって、
驚くこともあれば膝を打つこともあるかも知れない。
入門書としては必携の一冊と言い切りたい。

一晩であっという間に読みきってしまい、もったいなくてもう一度
読み直した。

日本古来における代表的な妖怪である河童、狐、天狗、鬼から、現代の都市伝説の中で人口に膾炙するように生まれ出た口裂け女やツチノコに至るまで、日本史上に現れた有名な「化け物」の由来を紹介してくれている。

読みやすい内容なので、身近なのによく考えるとあまり分かっていなかった隣人である「化け物」たちの由来を知るには最適な一冊。
