何より驚くのは出版のスピードである。東京新聞のコラム欄を単行本化したものであるが、100回目の掲載（2月3日）からわずか3週間ほどで店頭に並んでしまった。時事ネタのコラムはすぐ賞味期限が切れてしまう。だけにスピードは欠かせない。だが「本音のコラム」に掲載がはじまった頃は圧倒的人気の小泉政権がイラク戦争に支持を表明した時期だ。「戦争への定石としての国論の統一という言説を私は拒否する。」突破者としての氏が語る視点はどれも突飛である。日常から開放されてものの見方の視点を変えるというのは難しい。東京新聞がよくスルーさせたなと感心するコラムもある。中でも「警察の民営化」（4月1日）は警察の不祥事を追及していた氏の発言だけにエイプリルフールであることを忘れると、とんでもない過激な仕掛けだ。今日の警察の不祥事は裏金に留まらす、拡大する一方だ。そういう法案の準備があっても可笑しくない状況にすらなっている。
本の企画に不満を言えば、プログに相当する「コラム」へのトラックバックが載っていればより面白かった。
