キューブリックが映画監督になる前　ルック誌のカメラマンだったのは知っていたんですが

まさかそんな頃の写真がちゃんと保存されてたとは…

しかしさすがのキューブリックでも青二才の時代に撮ってるものなど、たいした事

ないだろうと手にしたこの本だったのですが…　


　　　　　　　うわっ‥や‥やっぱり凄いっ！！


天才はこの頃もうすでに天才だったんですね…。　

天国のキューブリック先生！すいませんでしたっ！！　

そして　こんな面白い本を日本人向けに作って下さった出版社の皆さん

本当に有難う御座います。

キューブリックがプロの写真家になるきっかけとなった、
ルーズベルト死去を一面に載せた新聞を売っている売店で
憂鬱な表情を浮かべる老人の写真などは比較的有名ですが、
初めて目にする写真が非常に多くて大変興味深かったです｡

習作と称する一連の地下鉄隠し撮りや、40年代終わりの頃の
NYの風俗など、『非情の罠』のカットのような写真があったり、
動物園の猿の檻を眺めている客をあたかも檻に入れられた
動物のように捉えたショットなど、いかにもキューブリック的な
冷笑的な作品も見受けられましたし、ルック誌に掲載されてた
ストーリー仕立ての連作ものなどは、完成度が高いのに驚かされます｡
少々値段が張りますが、紙質やレイアウトも良いので映画監督になる前の
キューブリックの仕事に関心ある方にとっても非常に価値のある写真集と思います。

１人でキューブリックの映画を見ている時、ついPauseを押して止めてしまうケースが
多い事に気づくのに時間がかからなかった。　時計じかけも、２００１年も、
戦争映画のフルメタル・ジャケット、恐怖映画のシャイニング でさえも、
画面を静止して鑑賞してしまう。そんなお気に入りの場面がある。　
他の映画作品ではほとんど経験の無いことだけに、カメラマンとしてのスタンリー・キューブリック監督の感性が感じられて仕方がない。
