映画が大衆向けに作られていたのに対して、この原作の方は大人向けに出来ています。映画にはまった子供がもしこの本に手を出したら･･･と思うと、少し怖いような気がします。映画よりもバイオレンスで性的な表現があるので。
内容の方は至ってマニアックです。映画のような中途半端なマニアックさはありません。ですが巻末には詳細な説明が載っているので、いちいち調べる手間が省けて助かります。続編に続く短編小説や、表紙ギャラリー等も収録されているので豪華です。

5.0 out of 5 stars 世紀末英吉利一大伝奇・怪人同盟此処ニ現ル, 2006/8/10
超絶に頭のいい人が、その全能力を尽くして、超絶に頭の悪いことに捧げた記念碑的作品。

ヴィクトリア朝時代のスーパーヒーロー（ネモ船長、ジキル博士、透明人間……）が一堂に会して謎の敵と闘う、という本作は、それだけ取れば普通のエンターテイメント作品として成立しそうだが、そこは、かの「アラン・ムーア」。その内容は二重、三重にひねくれている。

驚天動地の展開と息を呑む衝撃はあるが、本作にハッピーエンドはない（リーグ・オブ〜続においてはなお顕著である）。

ヴィクトリア朝時代というのは、「古き良き英国」であり、「紳士が紳士であり、淑女が淑女であった」時代なわけだが、本作におけるヴィクトリア朝は、そうした理想化されたものではない。
深いリサーチと、無数の作品の（ねじ曲がった）引用を含め、軽妙な皮肉の中に、その裏側を魅力的に描き出す。

ここで明らかになる偽善や偏見は、同時に、現代の読者諸氏にも当てはまることであり、爆笑しながらも、どこか背中に寒気を憶えることだろう。

同時に、これは、無数の架空世界、架空人物を全て網羅して、一つの世界に織り込もうとする壮大な試みでもある。過剰に織り込まれた無駄情報は、なんというか圧倒される。

なぞめいた「Ｍ」の正体等、重要なプロットは、誰しもわかるネタでありつつ、なるほど！と膝を叩きたくなるだろう。

　映画観賞後、俄然興味が湧いてきた所に、以前から存在は知っていましたが英語が読めないので購読を諦めていたこの本の日本語翻訳版が出ると聞いて急いで注文しました。
　
　映画よりもダークでグロテスクですが、個人的にはコミックのほうがかなり好みです。

　すっかりハマってしまいました。
　続刊の出版を強く希望です！
