同著者の類書に比べ、ソーシャルストーリーとは何か、またその書き方がきちんと説明されています。人とのつきあい方、学校生活、地域生活といった内容が含まれ、幼児期後半~学童期以降に適している感があります。
関係者必携の一冊と思います。

ソーシャルストーリーの作成にあたっては考えなければ行けないことが非常に多く，この本1冊ですぐ書くのは難しいと思います。しかし，ソーシャルストーリーの書き方についての情報が欲しい方は非常に多いと思います。現在まで日本語のソーシャルストーリーに関する出版物（断片的な物を除く）はこの本も含め2冊です。読んですぐ実践とはならないとは思いますが，ＡＳＤの人にうまくものごとを伝えられなくて困っている保護者の方や専門家の方是非読んでください。
そして，なぜこのようなストーリーが有効なのか，それぞれご自分で考察してください。同時に自閉症について正しく学んでください。そして，なぜこれが有効なのか自分なりの答えが出たら，実践してみてください。できれば，一人だけで書いて読ませないで，みんなと相談しながら，読ませてみてください。自閉症の人と意味を共有することの効果を実感できると思います。

高機能広汎性発達障害の男の子がいます。
現在小学校1年生。
小学校で、初めてプールに入りました。水遊びや、お風呂は好きなのですが大きな25メートルプールをみるとまったく入る勇気が湧いてこないようでした。

そのようすを見て、初めてソーシャルストーリーを書いてみました。泳ぐことについての文例が本にあったので、それを参考にし、ウチの子用に編集して見せました。

すると、次の体育から恐る恐るではありますが、プールに入れたのです。
大成功でした。

もともと、この本は療育機関の医師から薦められて買った本です。現在ソーシャルストーリーをかくために参考になる図書はこのキャロルグレイさんのものしかないとも聞きました。（日本語で書かれたものは）

「手をあらう」
「わたしがせきをしたとき、ほかの人にうつさないようにすること」
「ばんごはんのときのマナー」
「あかりをけすのはいつ？」
「集会」
「かさいけいほうがなったとき」
「花火」
は、うちの子どもにとって、とても使えるものでした。
本人が不安になるシチュエーションのときに「大丈夫よ」と１００回言ってあげるよりも、その場に応じたソーシャルストーリーを使って、読んであげることのほうが効果的でした。
