江國さんが選んだ詩を集めた詩集で、本の装丁も素晴らしく、本棚に一冊置いておきたいような雰囲気があります。
詩集なんですが、言葉のセンスの光ってるものが多く、大人になって絵本を読む時に感じる、忘れかけてた温かなことばを見つけたような気持ちになるものが多かったです。又、愛の詩は激情です。

詩のセレクトはもちろん素敵ですが、編集においても優れており、まるで一つの物語を読んでいるかのように詩から詩に読みうつる時の無理がありません。
これは、詩集としてとても完成されているものだと思います。

たしかに江国さんが言うようにかなり無秩序で、ひどく偏った
だけど、どれもが力強すぎるとはいえないアンソロジーと
私は感じました。
個人的には、不倫もの（奥さんなんて呼びかけ、とても詩的とは私には思えない。
でも、堀口大学さんの詩は好きです）や倦怠期の夫婦もの（江国さんいわく疲弊していく恋）は、
あまり好きではありません。

また、ギヨーム・アポリネールの「とてもいとおしい僕のルウよ」のように
お前が好きだを連呼するもの（ある意味こういうのを力強すぎるというのかもしれませんね）
もサムイ。もちろん、好きな詩もたくさんありました。林芙美子、高見順、
八木重吉、中原中也、ジャック・プレヴェール、佐藤春夫、フランシス・ポンジュ、

アルフレッド・テニスン、ミルン等等。
ほとんが好きな詩であると言ってもいいくらいです。さすがは江国香織さん。
とくに最後の「活発な暗闇のこと」というところで、それぞれの詩について
短いコメントをしているのですが、それが、すごく的を得ていてすごいぞと
またもやられてしまったー！という気持ちを味わいました。

なんて、表現力が豊かなのでしょう。
はじめ『活発な暗闇』という題の中にくくってしまうには、かわいそうだなあ
と、思う詩がいくつもあり、疑問に思ったのですが、
江国さんは最後に「暗闇でまたたくものをコレクションにした」と書いています。
『活発な暗闇』とは、そういう意味だったのですねえ。

高校生の頃、この詩集をはじめて読みました。
詩なんて気恥ずかしくて読めない、と思っていたのに、
この本はあっさりと私の考えを変えてしまった。

あれから３年。今もう一度読んでみると、
詩のよさだけでなく、奥深さや、
その性質さえ感じられるような詩集です。
もしかしたら詩は、小説よりもドラマティックかもしれません。

私も「暗闇」を恐れる一人ですが、
暗闇の中の活発さに気づき、それを身近に感じることができれば、
過剰な恐れは必要ないのだと思えました。
暗闇は等しい。単純なその事実に、少し勇気をもてました。
