マイナスな事柄を果てしなく並べると、
逆にポジティブな感想を抱くことがあるのは不思議です。

本書は活字のほとんどない、純粋な絵本です。
登場するうさぎ達は、なぜか皆「頑張って」自殺しようとします。
死のうとして「頑張る」のです。
うさぎ達が自殺しようとする姿が、始めから終わりまで延々と続きます。

「自殺」は、人生において最もネガティブな選択。
それを進んで、苦労までして選択するうさぎ達の姿を見ていると、
逆に「生きる」気力が沸いてくる。
「前向きに生きなければ！」と思える。

ブラックユーモアとして面白いのはもちろんですが、そんな見方もできる絵本です。

間違えて購入して、届いた時に「自殺」の文字を見て目を疑ったのですが、絵を見て行くうちにうさぎがかわいくて仕方ない感情に囚われてしまいます。

絵を見て、「これはどうやって死ぬのか？」と考える絵もあります。頭で考えて楽しむ絵本です。

自殺という文字に囚われるのではなく、うさぎが現社会に何を伝えたいのかを考えさせられる絵本だと思います。

この本に登場するうさぎたちは、実はとても頑張り屋で、ものごとを否定的に考え、
だけどそれでも頑張ってしまう。だから自殺するときも、あの手この手で頑張ってしまう。
なんだか今の世相を反映していなくもないが、そういう大げさな見方をしてもよし。
読み方は人それぞれだ。

しかし、うさぎたちの無垢さと自殺願望の、相反する二つをシンプルな絵本であらわした
ブラックユーモアの本――として私は読んだ。

可愛くて無垢である。でも健気さと同時に、切なさも覚えてしまった。

単純に「可愛い！」と言うことは、ちょっとできないなあ。
かといって動物愛護の精神で頭から否定するヒトもどうかと思います。

まあ、そうは言っても、子供に見せるときには慎重にしたほうがいいのは事実。
PTAが「悪書」と騒ぎ立てそうだ……。

うさぎだとリアルすぎて、そこがいいとはいうものの、一歩引くシーンもなきにしもあらず。
可愛いを通り越して、ブラックユーモアもスルーして、ブキミな感じがする箇所もところどころ。
「自殺とんぼ」ぐらいにしてほしかったとも思うが、それではコンセプトが
違っちゃうんだろうなあ。
