良い意味で期待を裏切っていく作品だと思う。タイトルと設定のアウトラインを読んでこういう話だと決めつけないほうがよいかもしれないが、逆に先入観を幾度も裏切る流れに身をゆだねていくのが心地よい作品でもある。

作品のトーンも単色ではない。悲しみも喜びも救いも軽い絶望も、明るさも寂しさもあっけらかんとした味もおかしみも繊細も混ざりあって淡く優しい色が作品を覆っていくようである。

難解なところはない作品だが、西田氏が準備した様々なピースの詳細な形と、完成したパズルの鮮やかな全体像をよりはっきりと見るために、再び味わってみるために、しばらくしたらもう一度この作品を手にとろうと決めている。

読み終える前のことだが、この作品を読んで電車を降りたある夜、日頃は何かぎすぎすとしたものに映る人や街の細部がなぜだか妙に自分に近しく思え、優しくしてあげたくてたまらなかった。

作品が私の目を暖色のフィルターで覆ってくれたのだろうと気付いた。

タイトルとダ・ヴィンチ（雑誌）のインタビュー記事にひかれて、手に取らずして購入しました。

「不倫の末　自殺を図った東子と偶然それを助けた日葉の出会い・・・」といった紹介の文章から想像した内容とは、大分違いました。が、読みやすく、それでいて、なんだか　はっとさせられるところあり。

　軽く読めるけど　もう一度読みたくなる　そんな話です。

表紙に惹かれてこの本を手にとったが、物語も美しかった。ドウセンボウという美しい土地を舞台に、人々の魂の再生していくさまが描かれている。

物語は本当に淡々と、断片的に描かれている。大事な事が語られないまま終わってしまっていたりもする。が、主人公がドウセンボウという辺境で非日常な経験をするように、読んだ後はなんだか、人生から切り離された、まるで白昼夢のような経験として自分の中に深く残った。いろいろな事を考える時間をもらった。

苦悩や挫折を経験したことのある、すべての人に読んでもらいたいです。そして今まさに人生のドツボに陥っている人にも。get up
