英語を英語で理解する。ということは、大学で英語で世界の問題を学んでいる自分にとって重要なことですが、ペーパー(英文で書いた提出物)を書くときに日本語で考えてから英語に直してしまいます。　
この本は、そんな私にぴったりの本で、書いてあるのは絵と英語だけというシンプルさながらそういうことやったんや！と驚くことが多々あります。

この本を買って、つくづくよかったと思います。


確固たる地盤がないまま、

受験英語をひたすら勉強していた学生時代。

その長い無意味な時間に、価値を与えてくれた本です。


従来型の日本人作成の受験英文法に関しては

英文がダサイという難点があり、

そのかっこ悪さを知っている身としては

この英語表現の洗練性に

ビックリ、ドキドキ、ワクワクします。


イメージに対して

シンプルな英語表現がくっついてきますが、

その英語表現のシンプルさによって

物事を把握する表現能力が育まれます。

その描出能力の確かさは

まさにロングセラーとなるにうなずける作品です。


イメージの絵に関しては、

配置法が素晴らしく、

まさに順を追って基本を積み重ねていくのにピッタリです。

1945年に出版され、たちまち世界中でベストセラーとなった英語学習書の古典的名作。
新版では、統計数字や物の値段などが刷新されている。
日本語を使わずに、イラストと英語だけで書かれた本書は、初心者が少ない語彙だけで、日常生活を表現できるよう工夫されている。
装幀は、ＪＴの広告「大人たばこ養成講座」や『死にカタログ』（大和書房）『ウンココロ』（実業之日本社）で人気の寄藤文平さん。
