MIDIファイルの操作、編集、変換など、ここから出発するのが手かもしれません。

この本ではMIDIとは何かという基本的なことが記述さてれおり、MIDI
プログラミングをする上で必ず役立つ本と言えるでしょう。
また、この本には著者か開発したMIDI関係の関数が付属（CD-ROM）し、
関数の説明もあります。
ただし、入門書としてはかなり難しいと思います。
C言語やC++を一通り学習していれば全く問題はありません。
